The plot thickens.
I'm anxiously awaiting the resolution of this incident.

Exactly. There is no reason that the guy who "allegedly" defeated the lock/ security device can not also be the driver. Maybe he didn't defeat the locking mechanism anyway. I'm not the first to believe that this is a bit suspicious. The cops are going to treat anyone as a suspect, as anyone is.

Either way, I am not saying that there could not be two or more people but the short time frame deosn't really mean anything. You said, yourself, that it's fair to suppose that a second person did so at an earlier time. Why would it have had to be a second person? It may be resonable to expect this scenario but that's it, reasonable to expect. The car could have been disabled earlier by the driver, if we are to believe that a key was not used. There far too many unknowns to make any meaningful assertions as to the number of people.

Just to play out an imaginary scenario -- an owner can simply give the 2nd car key to a hired guy to drive the car away, and then the hired guy returns the car key as soon as the job is done. Make sure the car computer is well burned and no key data can be recovered.

Donut muching cop or not, you would have to think axho's scenario certainly plays out as the simplest and most plausible, and coupled with the OP having the seemingly only motive, regrettably means the burden of suspicion will fall on the OP until some new information alters the dynamic. Especially, if the best competing theory is multiple parties conspiring to torch a $100,000 car for idle amusement. Professional thieves could have easily garaged the car and waited to strip it if they ran into problems.
I don't think the OP does himself too many favors about posting before and after about the new MY10 GT3. But then, in his defense, if the OP wanted to upgrade, why not simply trade it in. Can the delta between trade-in and payout be that much to warrant the risk of torching the thing? Now if the goal was simply to get out of the payments that would be another thing entirely.
Assuming the OP wasn't involved, and by all accounts here and elsewhere he's a good guy, what is truly the most credible alternate scenario? Until there is one, I wouldn't expect there to be a quick resolution to this one.

That's if you believe that the system was defeated in a manner other than the usage of a key.

The OP is apparently also considering a Cayman as a replacement.

I have talked to a couple people about buying their 997 GT3s over the last year or so that were on lease.
With the minimum driveoffs these cars were approximately $10,000 upside down. Today at the worst I would think not more than $15,000 - $20,000.
I can't imagine all this speculation that the OP would turn to a life of crime, risk his business, freedom etc for that amount of money.

Besides that it's wrong. I don't like the attitudes taken here towards the OP. We shouldn't treat each other like that, no matter what the circumstances look like.

I think all of the finger pointing at the owner is ridiculous and disrespectful.

I was just making the point that if someone was tempted to do something wrong I would think it would have to be for a lot more money than what we are talking about here.
I have met the OP a few years back and he seemed like a nice guy. I wouldn't think he is involved nor would I accuse him of any wrong doing.
I bet he is sorry he ever started this thread.

My responses are mostly directed toward those here who have been disrespectful towards law enforcement because they have reportedly questioned the OP at length and basically treated him as a potential suspect. Being suspect does not equal guilt. The police would be remiss in their duties to treat the situation in any other way.
