Today was a fun day. I installed my new DSC and a set of the new Numeric pedals; I got the black plain style; they're cool pedals, look great and I like the feel.

Then I tried to help a buddy install Torque Solutions mounts in his 997.2 C2S. They didn't fit properly, so we put it back together, swapped cars, and went for a drive. It was my first time driving a PDK. I love my manual, but, the PDK is an amazing transmission. I hammered it on a long straight and he didn't have time to grab a gear and catch me. If I ever look for a Turbo Cab, I will look for a PDK. But for fun, and if I buy another 986, it's going to be a manual.

I filled up with ethanol-free premium, added some Stabil, and washed the car when I got home. It might be the last drive of the season. If it is, I will start detailing soon.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Started swapping out my struts/shocks and springs for a B12 kit. Rear shocks were worn so I decided to capitalize on the opportunity. So far I have the passenger side done (although I have a sheared bolt to deal with). The bump stop on that corner was dry rotted and pulverized. 1 down 3 to go...

2006 Carrera S Coupe with manual transmission and 57,000 miles. Since I'm alone for this rather dismal Xmas, I decided to do some needed maintenance on my "new" car.

Changed out the original motor mounts for some Function-First Sem-Semi-Solid mounts. These are basically the stock mounts with some urethane added to stiffen them up a bit and, hopefully, increase their life. Super simple install and I noticed quite a difference on my first test drive. Really like the improvement.

Installed the Function-First transmission mount inserts (the soft orange ones).

Installed Function-First cable ends. These, along with the mount upgrades, definitely have made the shifting more precise.

Did an gear oil change on the transmission while I was under there. Old stuff looked great, nothing in it other than translucent gear oil. Put Mobilube PTX 75W-90 in.

All in all, a good day and it didn't take long at all. A huge thumbs up for my new Quick Jacks. Best $1000 I ever spent.

Cheers,

Great job using all the right parts and fluid choices. You'll love it.

Thanks! Took it out for a night drive and I'm amazed by how much better it shifts and how much tighter the whole car feels. Since those engine mounts were the originals, it's no wonder I'm noticing some vast improvement! I also had a "clunk" when shifting sometimes before and that's gone as well. Time and money well spent!

Super simple install. Nothing special to be concerned about. Much improvement over stock.

I had Rennline stainless brake lines, Motul RBF 600 fluid and RSS semi-solid motor mounts installed a couple days ago. I also installed the Rennline black pedals as well, which look great 👍.

I haven’t noticed a big difference in brake feel yet, but I have carbon ceramics so I probably won’t notice anything until I really get them hot see how the pedal feels. I have noticed quite a difference from the motor mounts. Shifts are crisper and don’t move the motor as much. There is a bit more vibration at idle, but while driving it’s not noticeable. Very happy with the new upgrades

Just curious, what's the typical lifetime of struts and shocks and what are the first signs of them going bad? Only put just over 40K miles on my first two 997's so no issues there. At 66,700 miles on the GTS now and all still seems good. The dealer just had it for the PDK replacement and I asked them to check things out while on the lift and during the road test. No problems was the verdict.

2009 C2S 167K miles

My rear shocks leaked ... don't know exact mileage they started, but car was bouncy at high speeds and I discovered the leaks at 94K miles. Bouncy is not quite correct... depending on the highway undulations, the car was swaying so I would put it in Sport mode to stabilize. I figured something was wrong as I didn't like Sport mode much for typical highway cruising. I still have my original springs... I don't know how to diagnose a bad spring.

Peace

Bruce off roads his 997 in order to get some good bird pictures, while carrying two passenger weights of Doritos ... So I would expect his shocks would wear out sooner.

My 2010 C4S PDK with 136K miles is still showing no signs of leakage on the OEM units. The rears did feel soft to me but it took some time for me to adjust from mid engine to rear engine dynamics. In other words, I suspect they were always soft and it simply required some time for me to accept it. That being said, a quick adjustment in the DSC rear shock calibration table brought them to my liking. Better than new and I'm still waiting to see how long they last.

Default Installed some of my Christmas gifts.

Part way through install pics. Need to find where the frunk light connector went..(MIA far as I can tell...explains the PIWIS scan results earlier this year). Not sure what PO/Dealer did with it but I couldn't find the connector..time to take the trim out and see.

Most shocks don’t ever leak, even when they are completely worn out. Leaking shocks are always bad, but bad shocks rarely leak.

Most shocks are also done by 100k miles. They go bad so gradually that most people don’t realize it until the ride gets horrible or they drive a car with new shocks and remember how things used to be. So I would bet you would feel a noticeable improvement in your ride and handling at 136k miles if you replaced your original shocks.
