Very curious how the install goes and how much longer we'll need to wait for it in the US.

I am trying to decide if I want to pay the dealer to install or install myself. I've removed my stock CDR24 before, so that part is not concerning.

I think I'm going to try to tackle the install myself based on the limited information we have at the moment. My question will be if it requires any type of programming from the dealer, specially for the individual settings menu that is available on Sport Chrono equipped cars. I'm guessing (hoping) that's not the case, but I won't know for sure until we get our hands on them. Shoot, maybe this new PCCM+ will give non Sport Chrono equipped cars access to the individual settings menu?

https://www.porsche.com/internationa.../pccm/manuals/

doesnt say anything about Sport Chrono needed for individual settings

I'm curious how the installation will look like on this. Having installed one in my 996 the install experience differs based on the audio set up you have. In my experience, the most plug and play install will be with the stock Bose and MOST set up. Everything just plugs up and you're done. Other audio options require some additional parts and modifications.

For the PCM3 and up, you can get this: https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk/shop-...roid-auto-kits -- which is cheaper and retains your current unit!

I would love to see the install manual. Still somewhat hopeful it will be able to use the existing microphone, and it would be good to have USB on the back, but it's impossible to tell from just the pictures of the back of the unit.

It being plug & play on a MOST system is a major thing for me, that makes it so much easier than any other aftermarket install.

Ok,
installation time is expected to be ~ 2 hours.

There is digital radio —>new antennas,
new gps antenna,
new microphone,
memory card for maps,
touch screen…

The PCCM has to be coded, so there is no separate phone unit in the car.
Installation seems easy.

On the 996 model you receive a new microphone. I think the connection was slightly different. That said, I'll be removing the actual microphone guts from the plastic housing and installing it into the stock location on my car. Much cleaner and not tacked on to the steering column. The kit also included a new GPS antenna which I was able to route to the stock location and keep it hidden from sight. I imagine same can be done on the 997 too. From the image posted, it looks like the 997 model has a USB connection on the front. My guess it will be for Carplay / AA as the 996 unit does not support wireless connection out of the box. I'm curious if the 997 model will include an additional box for more connectivity like the 996 model. I have mine nicely hidden away and will be connecting a wireless connection box for Carplay/AA.

on the install the Q&A seems to indicate that there is an auto-configure.....hopefully this means no coding by the dealer is required for a self install.

32. What do I have to consider when I install the PCCM Plus for the first time? The Auto-configure PCCM Plus function must be run when the Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus is used for the first time in order to guarantee the full range of functions. 911 (Type 997) / Boxster (Type 987) / Cayman (Type 987): To run the function, press CAR -> Set -> System -> Configure PCCM Plus -> Auto-configure PCCM Plus or Button HOME -> Car -> Set -> System -> Configure PCCM Plus -> Auto-configure PCCM Plus. First-generation Cayenne: To run the function, press CAR -> Set -> Auto-configure PCCM Plus or Button HOME -> Car -> Set -> Auto-configure PCCM Plus.

Was there an announcement somewhere that this is coming out, or why all the chatter today?
