I thought the gel coat (at the time) did not have sufficient UV protection, so it first yellowed, then cracked in excessive sunlight...?

911 wood is typically a disaster zone of fading and cracking; probably for the reasons you mention, and is astronomically expensive to replace

Funny, I thought the would would have held up better due to the fact that it's wood... maybe.

From the photos the wood is only on the gear shift and the hand brake. So not much.

My experience is that, at least in 911's, wood does no help with resale. Carbon, aluminum, etc...is far more desired.

This car actually ran through Manheim auction after the BaT sale. I guess either the sale didn't go through or the buyer dumped the car right away.

That car is patently not X50, and there is no way the BaT auction could have closed because it was 100% misrepresented

Manheim offers far less scrutiny, and the current dealer is simply pawning it off on the unsuspecting

Fortunately it’s (now or soon will be) worth asking price even without the obviously fake options sticker

996 Turbo S is already pushing $150K elsewhere, as a manual this one should have landed close by

Or soon will

It was most likely poly resin used which is not UV stable. I use epoxy resin today and then use 2k clearcoat over it and it will never, ever fade.

That's alot of money. Though I really don't understand the fascination with the "S" designation. It's not that much better all things considered. Porsche guys are so weird, obsessed with letters and exterior colors.
