A good spring clean up yesterday, inside and out. Picked this up early COVID, formerly owned by Rennlisters Chad and then BrianX50. ‘02 with X50 package, just turned 44k miles. Since acquiring last summer, performed an engine out service, replacing coils and pinning the coolant lines. New clutch, flywheel, and also replaced engine and tranny mounts. Billstein PSS10s and new Pilot Sports too. Waiting on the backordered wheel spacers to finish the look.
I change the steering stock controls the other day because one of the was loose. Disconnected the battery and all for about 30 minutes prior to starting the job. Got everything back together nicely and started the car up and now I have the dreaded airbag failure light on! Sucks. Don’t know how to reset that one.
also, I finished up a decent detail start to the interior with leatherique on the seats and did a shampoo and extraction of the carpets. They didn’t have any stains on them but boy was the water that came out of those carpets dirty! I finished off by installing new floor mats from suncoast. They look nice and stock just the way I like them.
have a few more projects to go:
1. Motor mounts. Exhaust sits about 1 3/8 inches below the cutout on the bumper. I have the 964 rs kit from suncoast but I’m a little chicken to try it myself.
2. Transmission mounts. Same as above.
3. Want to get oem wheels and tires. Still trying to source a good set for a reasonable price.
4. Exhaust. Want to upgrade to a nicer aftermarket one with no drone. Yet another thing that’s a bit hard to find.
5. Full exterior detail and paint correction.
6. Remove window tint. It’s nice but I don’t like it generally. Funny thing is,I have 3 cars with the stuff on them. Ugh!
if I get this stuff done, it should be a great summer!
I just bought my first Porsche last month, a 2001 996 TT in speed yellow with 21,000 miles. The first thing I did was buy a Durametric software kit. It is much better than the cheaper OBD types, which are mainly for emission control use. It will clear the airbag code, when they won't.
The second thing I did was join PCA. I've been to a couple events already (dinner and breakfast). I sat with another 996 TT owner at breakfast yesterday, and we talked about exhaust. I've got the standard exhaust on mine, and am not real enthused about the sound. But I don't want it crazy loud either. I mentioned SpeedTech, and this guy has their 2.5 inch "Quiet" X-cellerator Exhaust System-Sound Level 1. That's the one I was interested in. It's his second exhaust (had an x-pipe with no muffler first time), and the first was too loud and droned on long trips. He switched to this one, and it sounds great with no drone. It's the one I'm going to buy. http://www.speedtechexhausts.com/ast1_012.htm
Good luck with the other work.

Congrat's on the Turbo, enjoy!
Actually, most of the hand-held porsche specific OBD readers (Foxwell, Carsoft, etc) do pretty much everything the enthusiast durametric will do and more. Including airbag resets... Factor in ease of use (not having to boot up a windoze computer) and the Foxwell 530 gets used the most, by far... It also works on my newer 991 Turbo, where the durametric has issues with the newer car.
Sometimes if the tread itself isn't direction, those arrows are for reference only so you always run them in the same direction when unmounting/remounting rather than any difference in the tire itself that necessitates a particular direction... eg: you could likely run them with the arrows facing backwards as long as you *always* run that set with the arrows facing backwards...
Or is the tread itself not symmetrical forward/backwards?

I changed the cabin filter and the engine air filter today.I don't have a lot of service records from the previous owner so I'm doing some of the simple things first. Next up is oil change. 47K on the clock. The first mod I will do is get another Speedtech 2.5 Quiet exhaust. I had it on my '02 and it is an awesome sound. I have a Quickjack on the list as well.
