But the stock suspension is quite soft, so the harshness from the ride is very likely coming from the R compound tire; when your coil overs go in, and then being able to dial in the compression and rebound, you should be able to effectively remove that harshness with the exception of when you meet potholes which will likely be quite harsh as the sidewalls on the cups are pretty bloody stiff.

I suspect there's a lot of crossover. My guess is the German manufacturer and era are probably a strong affinity for many 996/996TT owners. I've owned three VWs, the first being a 1995 Jetta VR6.
My problem currently is garage space. I'm "reserving" a spot for a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, and to get that in I'll already need a lift. After that it's storage space, which is in short supply. Maybe it's time for a second garage...
