So.....for what it's worth....she's heading to the track next week for her 21st year.
The seasons are short here in the great white North so we have to fit in all we can.
She looks a tad different on track weekends, but here, almost good enough for the wife to ride in .
Almost.
Dropped my TT at the Indy shop in NH for some preseason work including coils, plugs, new pads ( Porterfields , to reduce dust), brake flush and. a few other things. There were no less than 5 996TTs there in various stages of repair, all quite nice. Usual cadre of air cooled cars and a couple winged GTs. He was also working on a Maranello for a good customer which was gorgeous. Great opportunity to see a bunch of cool stuff. Of course, the visit was surrounded by plenty of drama as my tow vehicle ( a rather well preserved 02 F350 Diesel) started to act up and barely made the trip. I carefully nursed it there and back home at 50 mph up the turnpike for 1.5 hours. Just had valve cover gaskets done and I suspect something was badly disturbed in the process. I drive that truck about 3000 miles per year and it's stored winters, but when I need it to tow, its gotta be good. I was pretty worried that I was going to be stranded on the Maine Turnpike with the TT in the hauler on a Friday afternoon at 3pm. Not ideal. She soldiered on, like 7.3s tend to do. Anxious to get the TT back.
Holy smokes, do you have Wald Duchatlets/SSR Vienna on your car?!? I didn't even realize they made those in Porsche fitments.
Wald Duchatlets?.......the wheels?
Those are custom HRE's from 20 yrs ago.....heavy street wheels.

Is your car at Talbot's, if so mine was there too for a corner balance and track alignment. It is the black one with natural brown interior.
Yes it is. Ive taken my air cooled 911's to Blair for years. He's definitely expanding the number of later model 911's he services. Love that place. By. the way, very nice car!
Finally found some time to get the 660s on, and I must say, I am very happy with the look, much more so than the 245 on the front.
It also seems to drive a bit better and my clunk seems somewhat abated, so I'm not sure why that is... also got to clean it up and can categorically state that cherry blossom petals will mark a ceramic coated car, and seems impossible to remove...
So far so good; much stickier than the 615, probably not as sticky as the 888.
What I found interesting is that my top hat clunk seems to have disappeared, so I am not sure if that is due to a nine inch wheel up front or something else.
When they are cold, easy to break them free, they break progressively, in a controlled manner.
When they are warm, they're the stickiest rubber I have for the 996... I do not find them noisy, but I am very ahead of hearing, so that may not mean much.
Optically, I like them a lot more than having a 245 up front.
Sure did, the 245 created serious visual ocd conflicts.... the 235 looks wayyyy better, methinks.
If you could, can you post some side by side comparisons of each on the car? Also a closer photo of the 235 on the 9" wheel, I want to see if there is any "stretch."
All told, pretty happy with the fit and look. You can see at the top that the 245, in my opinion, seems weirdly large for the well, and it does not seem like I have given up a lot of traction going down 10mm on a 9" rim, there is no discernible stretch over the rim, and the tyre stands fairly vertical mounted.
Weather permitting, I am going to try and get a nice run in tomorrow at 0400 and see how it runs through my little test section; the 615 would touch 134 kmh and would just be tickling the PSM, but these are most certainly more sticky, so a couple more clicks would be nice.
So far, they seem fairly quiet, however, @THP23 mentioned when they started to get run down, they were noisy (very), so maybe touch base with him on that as my hearing cannot be trusted.
It is easily a half inch shorter than the 245, but on the 9" front, it tracks very well and really isn't too bad over rough patches. I did notice this AM that there still is a little clunk (front right) on a couple of surfaces, but not nearly as pronounced as it was with the 615, so I am not entirely sure what that means - wider rims, less weight, forged wheel versus cast with the HLT, what? This will warrant a little more investigation because typically in my life, clunks tend to get worse than self heal, so I am wondering if the top hap is really the issue.
Under full load, when warm, they bite, and they bite hard, noticeably more so than the 615, and light years ahead of the PS2. I would say they are maybe a little better, most certainly ride better, than the Cups that are on @sdematts turbo, but if memory serves, his cups have been on the car for a while and may have hardened up a bit, so that might not be the most objective comparison.
Compared to the PS4 on the 991, the 660 is most certainly stickier, but I am still of the opinion that the PS4 is the best all around performance tyre (short of an R compound) that you can buy today, very capable in the wet and dry, very comfy, and wears exceptionally well. I have not had a great deal of time with the 660 in the wet, but it pales in comparison to the PS4 and the 615, which I actually find is quite decent in the wet, however, really sucks in the snow.
I somewhat gave up buying R compound tyres some years ago because I really wasn't getting the most out of them and they wore out pretty fast. The 615 was sufficiently surprising to me in its all around capability, so when I became aware of the 660 and its Z speed rating, I really wanted to try them, and am happy I did - overall, not as rough as an R, but entertaining and predictable, at least in the dry. Some more wet weather driving will be needed to formulate more of an opinion.
