I hear that - but after driving the 991 for the last couple of years (it is insanely fast, the brakes will stop the rotation of Earth...), but... at the end of the day, I cannot ever see myself parting with the 996, and in particular, the manual.
I was just poking a bit of fun at you - despite the sentiment of being there, and doing that, here you are, still on the 996 page...

Perhaps the itch still needs to be scratched...?
:-) not yet, but we will see as time goes on, I guess.
I have a lot of acquaintances and customers here from 18 years of membership and get email alerts every day, so I check it out....I still like to see what people are doing to their 996TT's. I like the 996TT crowd.
BTW - One of my welders bought the car, I see it often.
Just ordered Promotive dual air intake system for my 996 TT Evolution Motorsport GT750. Install will be by S-CAR-GO racing.
I forgot to add : just installed Focal Utopia M tweets/mids/midbass in factory location with Pioneer double din, Alpine PDX's and custom 13" shallow JL sub.
Whats your sitting room setup?
i have an old diva utopia be setup, i never imagined focals would sound so good in an auto setup until i heard a 6x1 setup.
Im extremely jelly!
Is the soundstage good from where you sit?
Is the bass chest deep or is it shallow to the ears?
are mid tones crisp to transition to high frequency?
Do you wish you went with a focal sub vs a jl sub?
I fantasize about this stuff lol but i would never spend the coin to do it.

Hi, by sitting room do you mean my home stereo? I have Venture Grand Ultimate speakers, Thrax mono's and pre. Luxman CDP/DAC, SME/Grahm/Wedfield turntable, and PranaWire cables. In all honesty, yes the Utopia M's are expensive car audio components, but are a game changer. Crystal clear, detailed highs without screechiness, clear mids, and solid mid bass. The imaging is spot on, and soundstage in front of my windshield, but could be deeper. I am tweeting my Helix sound processor. I went with shallow JL sub for weight savings compared to a big conventional sub, and the bass is deep Also, in my BMW, I have a Focal K2 3-way with Focal 12" sub. The Utopia M's crush it. I love the sound of my 996TT, but crusing on the freeway, I need good, if not great tunes. My passions in life are my cars, stereos, working out, and my cat Suki.

Ooh! Man thats a nice setup, my setup is aging, diva utopia be, conrad johnson tubes w/pre sonic frontier, preamp/filter. With moon audio supercd! Talk about ancient! I need to get a good dac but ive been really into portable dap and mid grade headphones/ear pieces.
Any money i put into the sound for my turbo would be wasted anyway.

The only thing that counts, in my estimation, is enjoying what you have at the moment. I accept the trade-off of present enjoyment vs. re-sale. I am 66 years old, so I don't care. . I mean my 996TT is a keeper, and it took me 30 years of buying and selling gear to get to my present stereo set-ups. Sure I made mistakes, but I have tried to learn from them. If re-sale was top priority for me, I would have gone with McIntosh, with their great following, but that sound is not for me. And regarding my 996TT, at first I replaced the Bose system (how they convinced Porsche is beyond me) with JL Audio C7 3 way. But even compared to my BMW's Focal K2 system, the Utopia M's are in a class by themselves, IMHO.
