Niche, here's a recent direct quote from Charles Navarro, L&N Engineering, on this subject:
"The larger bearing Porsche went to increased the ball speed, reducing street failures, but increasing track failures. Furthermore, ball bearings like RPM - it has been seen time and time again that cars driven like they were stolen (or at high speeds in Germany) have less IMS failures do to higher engine RPMs."

Good to know. My car has the Ln engineering bearing, but so did cudas.

Dang it! You've ruined my plans. Thought maybe I could pluck a motor while no one was looking.
Hey - I SCORED AN ENGINE!!!!
Ummm... Jake, c'mon....I didn't think that was very cool of you to post right after me in the seller's thread, offering to buy the motor. I was already in the process of discussing pricing with the seller, and I think he would have lowered the price more had you not essentially started a bidding war. You are able to pass on any increased cost to your customer. I am not.

I saw that post as well and thought it was a bit uncool. Karma can be a bitch

Glad I'm not the only one that thought it was a total dick move by JR. Nothing like kicking a guy while he is down.
Been following this thread, glad it worked out for the best... Well second best, assuming the bazooka Joe doesn't hold.

Operating manual is clear about warm up procedure. The other interesting read is a on oil consumption. I don't have the manual in front of me at the moment so this is a bit of a paraphrase. Cars that are not driven to full operating temperature accumulate moisture (water) in the oil. So while your reading may be full at the start of drive, when driven to full operating temperature, depending upon length of the drive, the moisture will dissipate and your finish reading could show up to 1 quart of consumption. This is not oil consumption but dissipation of the moisture. (Wish I had the manual in front of me so I could provide a precise quote - but these days I am lucky to know where I am)
When I read that I recalled the Porsche mechanic who did the PPI on the C4S. His assumption was that moisture was a major cause of engine failure on these cars, and yes he did mention the IMSB. Although the car I was purchasing was meticulously maintained, it was low mileage for the years. His concern wasn't low mileage, but the potential that the car was a "short trip" car. And yup - this is the same car that now has a Porsche crate motor in it. (And it runs fantastically well)
Cuda - looking forward to following your engine swap.

Good Karma
Looks like Mike will re-coop a little of the replacement cost

While true that moisture can be present in the oil, a quart? If you have a quart of water in your oil, I'm thinking the problems go deeper than failing to warm the car up...

I agree, 10% water in oil will produce similar mix to a damaged head gasket. If you don't believe it, take a quart of oil, and add 100ml of water in a blender....
