^^^^ Indeed. I'm pretty stoked about it. The seller is a very upstanding guy, so I do not anticipate any nasty surprises.

This will be very expensive, but at least not catastrophic. Besides, I rather like Ramen noodles.

So, sounds like I'm going to be stuck hanging around with all you jerks in the 996 forums, after all.

Ummm... Jake, c'mon....I didn't think that was very cool of you to post right after me in the seller's thread, offering to buy the motor. I was already in the process of discussing pricing with the seller, and I think he would have lowered the price more had you not essentially started a bidding war. You are able to pass on any increased cost to your customer. I am not.
Fantastic!! I remember that story. What a great find! That last comment..hmm. I hope his was just messing with you as that engine has been for sale for a little while now.

Happy for you! That is one check you can cross off the list. Now get it swapped and you might be able to recoup a little by selling some bits and pieces off the old motor like the heads, harness, fuel lines....

Wow! At least he should have PMed. Maybe he is not happy about not getting his hands on your 914 cheap so you are paying one way or another.

This is no longer a enthusiast forum. It is a medium where people can easily profit from our hobby. Sad..

What a bummer!! Glad you found a new motor for your baby, Mike. Can't wait to see her back up and running! On the bright side, Ramen Noodles with Egg isn't so bad... Good luck with the fix! Hope it doesn't give you too much trouble.

Yeah, I was a bit stunned when I saw JR's offer to buy the engine posted last night. I bet that post of his took $1,500 out of my pocket.

Well, anyway, I'll keep everyone informed as this progresses.

Pete, any idea if there is much of a market for that stuff? I wonder if one of the dismantling companies will buy the blown motor.

See? Not all of my threads are boring drivel.

You should be able to sell the heads to someone that has suffered from intermix. As for selling the whole motor as is to a salvage place that might be the way to go if you don't want to get into taking it apart. Not sure what amount of money it would bring.

Macster, thanks for response. Threads like these make me think twice about driving the car hard. Glad it's my wife's and I'm not tempted to hammer on it all the time.

Maybe you could offer it to Jake.....for, say, $1500.00?

Just kidding (I guess). Happy for you.

Niche, here's a recent direct quote from Charles Navarro, L&N Engineering, on this subject:

"The larger bearing Porsche went to increased the ball speed, reducing street failures, but increasing track failures. Furthermore, ball bearings like RPM - it has been seen time and time again that cars driven like they were stolen (or at high speeds in Germany) have less IMS failures do to higher engine RPMs."
