#$@! Blew my engine today #&*#@!

16 pages over a single blown engine. Wow. People say these cars can't be used every day but I drive the **** out of mine every day. So I guess I am going to find out.
Failures happen. Sorry it happened to you Cuda. Very glad to hear you found a new engine. My guess is that you will have good luck with it, lightening rarely strikes the same person twice.

I'm always up for inviting myself over to someone else's house to take his **** apart...I guess the question is, do we wait for his permission, or just show up with charcoal and wrenches?

Why don't you go type up all of your anti-M96 rhetoric in a new post and try to get it stickied? At least that way you could keep all of the vitriol in one place instead of smearing it all over every thread you come across.

The dead engine probably won't end up here (other than when I get the car towed home today), I'll likely just ship it straight from the shop to whoever I sell it to.
An engine dissection party does sound fun though!!!
Yeah, I do want to pull enough apart to see what caused the engine failure. I'm hoping the shop owner will let me do that. He's a great guy, and I think he will.
Two years ago, we adopted a cat from the local Humane Society shelter. A couple months later, it fell off of the roof and broke its jaw. I had to spend over $2,500 for that "free" cat, and spent a couple months tube-feeding it via a tube installed from its neck into its gut. We still have him, runs as good as new.
I hear you guys about doing some upgrades to the used engine. So, what are some things you suggest I should do to try and CEF/MOF-proof it, along with approx. costs? (it already has the LN IMSB).
I don't mind throwing another 1K or so into it, if the upgrades are worth it.

Schnell, you might be on to something there. We could have a sticky where anyone could bash the crap out of the 996 in one huge thread and get it out of their system. All posts welcome. In fact, that's a great idea! It would eliminate the bashing spread all over different posts and we could all go to the same place to vent. (or is that the IMSB failure poll thread) Good thinking Bro!
The #1 main basher by far is you. And you don't even have one anymore. Please just make your own thread and keep talking to yourself on there.

I have a good BBQ pit, so you guys are always welcome to drop by any time. That would be fun.

OK, coolant expansion tank being added to the list.
KK, I'm sure this is where you can add some great value to this thread!
Here's a list of some recent preventative maintenance stuff I did on the car (and you guys thought KK was KKrazy! ). Also, new fuel pump (a separate invoice).

Hate to be the party pooper, Butt to get to the point of impact you will have to split the case at minimum. That will make shipping much more difficult.
Who ever buys it will prefer it in it's virgin state.

Cuda, depending on the engine your getting, its a long list. I would take a look at the bores, pull the sump cover, comp test, etc. The good news is the parts are not too expensive, its the labor that costs so much if the engine were in the car.
Don't forget the oil filler tube, plugs, coils packs, cam sol seals, oil cooler, etc. Great time to take a good look at its current IMSB (even if new), RMS, clutch and related parts, DMF, coolant hoses/lines, vacuum lines, and on and on. Maybe even catch the chain guides and possibly chains, tensioners. WP and T-stat for sure. Theres a decent thread on mine while I had it out.
Scary bill you got there. Holy crap!

[QUOTE=KrazyK;11851354]Walter I doubt you could even drop an engine so maybe you should butt out.
I have no doubt I could if I wanted or needed to (which I haven't), but at the very least I have been and still am able to drive and enjoy my car the way it was meant to be driven and enjoyed...and feel I have gotten every penny that I've put into it back out in terms of enjoyment, which I'm surmising is the majority opinion here. The car owes me nothing which is a great feeling. I'm pretty sure you're the only one here who would decide to drop a perfectly functioning engine just to put a coat of wax on it...

You left off rod bolts. Remember it was (or is assumed) a rod bolt was the cause of engine's demise.
If the rod bolts can fail how about the rods themselves? And the crank? Valves have been know to break. And valve springs. Heads crack. And so on.
