Umm, maybe it's just me, but for some reason I like those seats better than the Boxster red.

Actually, that is really not bad. Picture of the damage shows frontal passenger hit + some underside damage.

Because you have bad taste, but we knew that already...

Yeah with a decent PPI to make sure there is no frame damage and that it was otherwise repaired decently that is a steal for buying a Porsche that you don't have to care about and just drive the snot out of it.

Hell even with a bit of frame damage if it's not too bad it would probably still make a great DD to bomb around with, just might preclude you from getting serious with it on the track.

If you could that would be fantastic! Thanks doc! Let me know what you want/need from me (since this is the first time I've done this, this is all new to me )

What does it feel like to have an FSI engine in comparison to a well sorted 3.4 engine? Is the difference very noticeable?

Everyone I've talked to says the difference is very significant. Most notably is the the increased power throughout the band, not just peak, and the how smooth the engine runs. You also end up with an engine that you don't have to worry about anytime in the near future as long as you follow their recommended maintenance schedule.

If true that seems like a steal to me. I'd love to get Jake's take on it, but something feels off to me.

It's supposed to be a Stage 1, but the only proof shown is the cert for the bearing replacement?

FSI cars are typically owned by people that want to keep them forever, so why is it up for sale?

I would also expect the typical FSI customer to have a much more detailed ad to reflect how much they love the car which also seems to be a common thread with their customers. Similarly, CL does not feel like where I would expect one to pop up.

There could be perfectly reasonable explanations to all that and the seller might be happy to provide the VIN so you can call FSI, but this feels to me like it had some work done at Jake's shop (bearing replacement?) and are milking the relationship.

A few clips from my emails with the seller. If anyone is interested in it I would be able to Rennfax it. The price is cheap but it's pretty close to what I would consider to be market value since FSI builds are a niche.

"I’ve been very pleased with the build, FSI is first class. Good question, I’ve been back and forth on the decision to sell. I had intentions of keeping the car for a lifetime, especially since the engine is now bullet proof. Right now, I have plans to redeploy those dollars to another project.....

You’ll be very happy with Jake, he is very thorough and transparent – he’s all business! For my engine, there is a noticeable difference in the power at 2ndgear. I am familiar with Rennlist, good idea. Thanks for the feedback on the price.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions."

No prob, I reached out to the seller and we'll see how it goes. The Ranger game isn't until Thursday, so I'll try to get over there tomorrow. I'll post the inspection in a separate thread later.

Good thing this isn't the TT forum or you would have incurred the wrath of D(i)ck for that

Cool. I did say there could be reasonable explanations. I just get twitchy when I see a Unicorn appear

I suppose you are right about the price, but it still feels low. In 3 years of paying semi attention to the market, this is the first time I've seen a confirmed FSI come up on the market (I do know of 1 other that was sold without an ad ever being posted).

So while this is a great chance to get a well sorted motor without the wait, it's also not like there is another one that you'll find tomorrow. Just seems to me that there should be more of a premium on it, but I guess it still has the "but it's still just a 996" stigma that is hard to over come

Doesn't feel low to me depending on when he got it done. Remember FSI used to have lower prices before so it's definitely possible to take a $5k roller and add on a $20k engine package to it.

Ask Pete what he paid for his 997 FSI and I think you'll be surprised that even the 997 will be around the same ballpark with the 3.8 engine.

Glad I did not buy this example earlier in the year! Selling was asking $22k before the engine failure which I felt was too high. IMS had been done and it ran good back the. Scary.
