This is pretty. Lovely colour, factory aero, good looking interior (painted console!), Sport Classic IIs. Don Wise Autowerks is legit, too, so it should be pretty well maintained. If I was still in the market...

Hard top for "911 conv" ... No pics, but at $250, worth following up on if you're in the NY/NJ area and looking for one:

2001 Porsche 911 996 Stock Mufflers & Tips
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...726000307.html

Dunno what the core charge is from eg Fister, but for $150 these seem a pretty good deal.

So as they say, timing is everything.
Hey, help me out here--my 996 engine was replaced in late 2006 and I was always under the impression that the failure rate for these was on the low end. Is that what you're saying?

If your engine replacement was a Porsche crate engine, then yes you should have the embedded larger diameter IMSB, which has a very low failure rate.

As 06 was the first full year of the larger captured version you have a pretty good chance of having the better bearing.

I suppose there could be an old stock reason for you to have the smaller single row in the replacement, but I wouldn't lay money on that being the case.

The sure way to know is to look at the nut the next time the transmission is apart. The captured bearing has a clearly larger nut.

That's actually a GREAT deal if the mufflers are some good aftermartket brand. From the pics, those are clearly aftermarket mufflers and not factory mufflers. No need for Fisters if you get these.

We talked about this poor ME in Harrisburg back on page 126. It's now on eBay:

with the delicious revelation that the CEL is on.

Do I hear $10K? Seven and a half?
