Depends on the buyer. Some love it, some hate it (boy racer). In some instances it seems like it pulls more money, but there have been some on BAT that sold for a good bit less with similar mileage. Condition, options, mileage, service history, etc. They'll always all play a role.

The AWD on the C4S does add weight and complexity.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Adds weight, makes it more prone to understeer, increases drivetrain losses. What about any of that is good?

10K difference between an early 99 and a C4S

It’s amusing because I remember a 10K price difference between similar 996.1s and a C4Ss around 2 years ago when I started looking to buy one.
IMO the C4S will always bring a premium

These are the costs of creating the fastest "regular" 996. As has been documented and explained here on the forum many times, in factory testing on the Nurburgring the C4S was faster than all other 996 variants (except Turbo and GTs). Please have a read, just click on this link:

Contrary to the layman's intuition, AWD actually makes for a faster car. It's the same with brakes, 4 wheel braking works better than 2 wheel braking.

Lol, you seem much smarter than that. Guess you just felt like going with some cons, and NONE of the pros. Definitely more pros to awd than cons lol

He forgot to mention driving feel as another negative of awd. A lot of people have converted awd to 2wd, and many more want to -- there is a reason for that. There are situations where awd can be better, there is no doubt about that, but for all around driving, 2wd is probably a better choice. At least that's my direct experience having owned both. Have you driven and compared an awd and a 2wd 996?

You did notice in the review that they were using different tires, right? In what world does a car that isn't traction limited (a standard 996.1/2 C2) get faster by adding weight and more driven wheels? The answer is never. The difference of four seconds is 100% just tires. Slap the same compound on both and you'll see the true result.

I guess that's why the GT2 and GT3 are both AWD.

What peterp said. My buddy who owns a C4S drove my 40AE car and the first thing out of his mouth was "holy sh**, you're steering so much lighter!" Not everything boils down to numbers. Some people prefer a certain feel either car will provide.
