I saw the writing on the wall back in 2018 and spent the summer searching. Many of the nice private seller cars on Autotrader etc were purchased and flipped on BAT which reaffirmed my belief that the 996 market was on the up. Ended up with a beautiful early 6spd coupe, white over natural brown, new IMS, clutch, water pump, all for 17k. Had more miles than I originally intended (101k) but as a summer daily I didn't want to fall into the "too nice to enjoy" trap.
If I could do it over again, would have bought the mint '99 Arena Red Factory Aero I passed on, 60,000 miles for $23k. Wasn't quite sold on the color, but looking at the photos now it's perfect. Those deals were common at the time, and in fact the car had sat on PCA classifieds for about a month, but looking back, that's one that stings..

Doubt we will see those prices again. Biofuel has become a reality compliments of Porsche, F1 and soon to be IMSA. We not only own a classic Porsche, but one that will be tooling around on the roads for decades in the future.
They can make all of the slot car sounding electric cars they want, but there will always be demand for the sound, feel and experience of a combustion engine. As 996 owners, we are in the right place of ownership.

It's the people that are stating opinion as facts that ends up causing all kinds of rifts. It's not a perfect car, but it also has viable fixes for certain areas of concern, and is amazing as is in many others.
We should share our opinions, and while I've driven 996.1, 996.2, 997.1, and 997.2, most were test drives so I never really had forum opinion on the differences of each besides the cabin. Then, there are others that will say "this" or "that" based on what they've read (or based on their own mental engineering degree). The 996loop of bad information gets mixed with the good which creates contention and confusion. Changing an IMSB is bonkers but a belt change on a Ferrari is status quo and it's just accepted. Maybe I'm an outlier but it's all strange to me.

Loud noises!
Happy Thanksgiving! Grateful for the 996 variant 911. If we didn’t have 996, everyone would have to hate on 997, 993, or 964. I would not want to live in that world; the pain and suffering of living in that world would be unbearable.

I always find it interesting that I don't hear many complaints about the slant nose, I guess they weren't produced like the 996 but IMO it totally changes the shape of the car. While the 996 is a classic shape outside of the headlights.

slant nose turbos aren’t priced the same as other turbos of that era, so that should tell you something.
