That’s just what you say. Theirs plenty of people who prefer awd all day over rwd. Awd is pretty much a go anywhere, anytime.. It’s a much more capable system bar none.

I am not on either side of the argument because I think all 911s have their place and purpose, but I always find it amusing when people say that the C4S is a standard carrera with "AWD added". It's not. It is a 996 Turbo with the turbo removed. Being lower and stiffer and wider makes a difference. Not to mention the brakes. So many people underestimate how important big brakes are on a track. I think the argument is silly, but if you're going to have it, at least consider all the variables.

lol yes, but I’d wager “most” non 996 owners feel the same as I.
Full disclosure; I own a 996. It’s a C4S though, and would of never bought one had I not gotten it for the price I did (someone close to me was selling). The C4S I can live. It’s wide body is pretty tough. I would of never bought a regular 996 though. There not for me. Totally uninspiring imo.

Drifting

Every car car I've bought for the past 25 years has been awd. On a generic basis, awd is great and largely doesn't impact driving feel. That is NOT the case for the 996. It affects driving feel a lot. If you have a specific need for a Carrera 4, then go for it., but it's ridiculous to claim it's superior when the driving feel is very different, generally not preferred, and when many people go to significant lengths to remove it. I'll be very frank that I did not like my 2001 Carrera 4 very much because of the driving feel of awd, made worse by Tip (for my wife), but the numb steering was because of awd. The 2000 C2 996 I have now is probably the best car I've ever driven (and I've driven and owned a huge number of cars, including many air-cooled 911's). How many threads have there been with people asking if the they can add awd to their 996? You seem to value only looks -- most of us are more concerned about the driving experience.

Personally I don't think of AWD on it's own as an upgrade to RWD, but it's about how everything works together as a package for the specific driver. In Excellence magazine Porsche tested all the 996 models and their driver was 4 seconds faster in the C4S than the C2. And they said the C4 was the slowest of all. I'm sure not every driver would find that same result. In the end, lap times are irrelevant and it's about how the car feels to you on the roads you drive it on. I must drive a 996 C2 now as I never have and I'm curious to see what will make the steering of my 996 C4S feel "numb" in comparison. Numb is a word I would reserve for cars like my wife's Hyundai Kona.
