Any idea how? Was it abused or neglected that you know of? It's difficult for me to accept the new DFI motor remains susceptible to bore scoring when used/maintained as designed. That would be a MAJOR failure for Porsche.

If you have a few hours here is the previous owners RL marketplace posting about the 997.2 I now own. It might be the most (in)famous 997.2 discussed on the 997 RL forum in the past few years

https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1182679

Extensive discussion on this motor and bore scoring in general can be seen here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...e-failure.html

Discussion about the subsequent PDK failure can be found here: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...g-the-pdk.html

Interesting, the MA1 bore scoring seems much more limited than with the M97 variants, and related to the direct injection/fuel interaction with indeterminate block casting issues. IE more like a "lotto" than fate. You are definitely good to go on your FSI 4.0, bravo!

Not trying to derail the thread but I don't think I've ever seen as many pictures of your 2009. JEALOUS.

Is the market still hot? Been MIA for August with work on vacation. Giving serious thought to selling the car, wife wants to move jobs and might be a pay cut so thinking while I don't want to sell the 911 it might not get the love it deserves for a bit.

I don’t know about hot but the price of classic 911’s certainly hasn’t dropped, if anything I’d say prices keep drifting up

Prices seem to be holding steady, maybe cooling off slightly as summer ends, but ASKING prices for private sales are surely still jacked. As expected the quick rise this calendar year has suddenly brought many more garage queens and GT models to the market hoping to capitalize on a hot market. Just my $.02 on the topic.

Yup, tons of GT & Turbo owners are not letting go of six figure asks. Might be here to stay

The way you guys talk makes me want to get a Turbo sooner rather than later

What's the downside? Nominal at best I would say.

I would never buy any car as an investment, but a turbo that you can drive hard for years and then probably get your purchase price back, seems a do. Don't discount the non financial joy that also comes with every mile. Add that to any future sales price and you're way, way ahead.

I don't have any use for it lol. The roads here are short and sh*tty. I mean the base 3.4 is more than enough car for me

I too prefer my 3.6 996 over my much more powerful 4.0 997 on most local backroads, somewhat due to the different suspensions, but mostly due to not needing that much power. On an open stretch of road the two aren't in the same league. I seriously wouldn't trust myself if I owned a turbo, but I will scratch the itch and drive one eventually.

I don't trust myself either. I already have enough problems being a young guy in a 911. Don't need to exacerbate them by buying a turbo
