Prices Keep Drifting Up

Pretty sure a 356 on bias-ply tires wasn’t pushing 1. something lateral, unless it’s a microsecond before the guardrail gets pounded. Nor do they accelerate or brake like an M96/97 car.

Former Vendor
The most race winning Porsche of all time is a 356 Speedster that had a wet sump engine. Today, the driver isn't someone I am personally fond of, but back in the day he was one hell of a driver, and still today NOTHING has beaten what he did in the 80s and 90s with that car in SCCA.

Too bad, the entire industry needs your help desperately. Every new car is worse and worse, ergonomically. The Macan is the best daily driver I've ever owned, it's also the worst ergonomically, the older Q5 it replace was much better (ergonomically). Then there's BMW, which is even worse.

Not going to sell.
39, this was transformed. He may get lucky with a rich collector. For a few bucks more I’ll take this one.

Jake Raby has stated "Porsche chose the VW TIV engine for use in the 914 and 912E" on his 912 engine tech website http://aircooledtechnology.com/porsche-912/
He can chime in. From reading online the motors share case and many parts between Porsche-VW. How else could Porsche expect the 912 to cost le$$ than the 911 to manufacture if not??
Not knocking VW: I own several and love them. I was driven home from the delivery room in a VW, & now DD a TDI wagon that is a veritable torque-monster tank!. Just horses for courses.

EDIT: The picture below I think is the 912 being discussed -- this is the early 912 with a completely different engine than the 1976 912E (which was a VW). The early 912 engine looks almost exactly like a VW Beetle engine, but the 1600cc 912 engine had no shared parts with VW and had nearly double the horsepower of the 1600 VW engine (102 hp vs 55 hp).
The article you linked is about retrofitting the 912E Type-4 VW motor into an early 912 -- that can be a practical option if you want to "hot rod" the Type-4 for driving your 912 while you keep the 912 engine original. The early 912 is pretty expensive to rebuild, and you probably lose some value if you go wild with engine mods on the original 912 motor to get more power.
