if I drive my car 100,000 miles and I don’t have to
have an FSI rebuilt. By that time just the carcass of my car will be worth a bunch more than I paid for.

Don't think this has been posted here, but, another reason prices keep going up, people like this car.

He will like the car more, and longer, if he didn't overfill the oil (5:20 mark). Guru? You decide.

starting to feel I did OK on mine. $39k. Almost same as the 03 posted above. Great wheels, aero spoiler, Tubi exhaust, 32k miles. No IMS though. Here she is getting a bath.

Surprised the cab didn't go higher.

Garage queens are sky rocketing despite the unwarranted jealousy by those driving 80-100k mile rides hoping one day to be able to afford and be graced with a build slot at fsi.

The smartest guy in the room buys the car with the broken engine, and gets in line. The only issue is, that people aren't selling the cars broken these days...

“True” unicorns typically do phenomenally well on BaT. That’s the point:

Do you believe that an M96 engine will need a rebuild at 100K miles?

I personally have seen 3, driven two high mileage cars with original engines. The funny thing is that all of them are 99. A convertible 6 spd with 177,000 that car is still for sale, I made an offer but it was not accepted. Then yesterday I saw one with 233 also 6 spd convertible. A red coupe tip with 243. I was not to impressed with that transmission. Anyway I believe there was another in Hawaii with over 250,000 miles. I had a mb 300 81 turbo diesel that went over a million miles. Don’t know if things are such today but being an engineer, I was really impressed with German engineering. My toughest class in college at Texas Tech was taught by a German guy (I’m not going to disclose his name) that on day one said the A are for this guy, because he wrote the book, the Bs are for me because I’m teaching the class, the c are for the lucky few that pass. That was me and I have never worked harder in my school life. Anyway 125 students started , 33 passed, and that was the filter because in my years that was the only teacher for that class. So to answer the question I think the engines can. It depends on a bunch of variables, who’s behind the wheel, maintenance, climate, etc.

My Vesuvio -99 has 115k, I bought it with a cracked head. While I didn't measure them for taper/ovality the bores were free of bore scoring. Good leak down/compression. Same with IMS, I replaced with LN but the old one appeared to be in good condition.

absolutely not but as we all know
depends on the service history and the driver.

I love the engine. On my 4th 911 and second 996, all original engine components for both and never a mechanical issue in 18 yrs of ownership between the two 996's.

We have a '99 cabrio with 26k, no issues.
My 04 had awful bore score when I bought it with 82,900 miles, rebuilt into a 4.0. The IMS bearing and RMS were both original AND perfect.
Buddy has a 2000 C2 and just tripped 150K on original engine. Runs flawlessly.....and I mean flawlessly....

Just change the oil and drive them.

probably true, I could see broken ones now at $15-20 easy if the rest of the vehicle is in nice condition. (I say this not knowing what current market is)
