I just meant that this was the reason why a premium isn’t always paid for those items. The shrinking market share is offset by the gain potential. Wait for the other buyer, though, and it could command a premium I guess.

Default High mileage 99

Another high mileage 99. Red. If maintenance is up to day it could be a great driver. I drove a c4 convertible yesterday and I sware it feels smaller and less comfortable than my c2. I had my seat all the way to the back.

Guards red over black with MY02's. Agreed, if a bunch of maintenance has been done for wear items, this could be a fun way to drive it for a while and rebuild it with FSI a year or two down the road. I have been saying what Jake said above since I got my engine, buy the cheapest one and rebuild the engine.

Or just maintain it flawlessly and drive it hard forever. A '99 flat 6 is going to be a lot harder than you think to break.

And as for the Type 996 Mezger, even Porsche Motorsports has said: "We have not yet found a way to break it".

Not a bad selling price for a car with 101k miles although I think it could have fetched more had the seller done a better job presenting the car in the photos.

That's how I ended up with my FSI 997.2. I made a comment on a thread that "if I knew then (when I bought my 996) what I know now I'd either buy a car with a FSI engine already installed or buy a roller and ship it off to FSI". Turns out a 997.2 had just come on the market and I bought it. No regrets at all.

Silver/Blue TARGA?! w/100K+ miles and the old MKI style side-skirts oddly applied?? I think $32K+ all-in was an almost unbelievable result.

If nothing else demonstrates how far prices have "drifted upward", it's these ho-hum workaday 996 examples that persist in breaking $30K now, that would have barely broken $19K only two short years ago.

Once this virtual "floor" hits $40K, Type 996 will have achieved classic 911 stasis. This could be as soon as 3-5 years.

You're probably right since I have seen many super high mile 996.1's, but I don't trust the engine that was rebuilt by a nameless previous owner in his garage with no documentation. That is probably why the car is so cheap, but take the gamble and it could be going for many years to come since it has only 30k miles on it.

I almost did the same, but the car I was looking at had an older engine (pre-solution), so I decided to rebuild instead so that I would have that original owner experience, plus 7 additional years of engine development. It's too bad since the other car was a speed yellow aerokit car with tons of track goodies, but I couldn't cut mine loose. Love her too much.

Ugh same here. I was really hoping it would break the $30k mark. I gave that guy/car some love in the comments but the photos were really bad and the seller, though fine, wasn't the hype man I thought he should have been.

Interesting "drift": currently down to zero MY1999 listings on Bat, and only one lonely 996 Turbo.

Freakish lull, or foreboding dearth??

The latter will eventually come, only a matter of when..

And FWIW the BaT 6GT supply has apparently now completely vanished
