I have the tip in my 03 but haven’t played enough with Durametric yet to know all the ins and outs. I fumbled my way through set up as I do with anything computer related. It does seems to communicate ok. I’d like to see if I have the original motor. That said, the icar soft thing seems a little more practical for use while driving if you’re trying to log or see something real time. I have to spend more time with this before I consider another product. Your needs are different so I can understand your frustration.

With the cost of PIWIS being extremely high $$$$$$$, the Durametric is the a good price even with it's limited compared function.I wish Porsche would get off that $$$ for 996 PIWIS after 20 years...

The Durametric functionality for the engine part is really good, at least on my ME7.8 Turbo. I have no complaints there. Coverage for other systems is a little spotty. I can't imagine they are going to do much more development for the 996 or even the 997 platform, so what we have is what we're likely to get.

Hunt Ebay for used PIWIS? Those probably need occasional software updates we don't have access to? So far so good, though, I'm guessing my Enthusiast version gives me plenty for now. This being mine will be kept mostly stock.

In Boston too... As Skip will tell you... all my disposable income goes to go fast parts and not diagnostics... and I already broke that rule buying my 10+ year old Durametric cable that doesn’t even run the current software. Serves me right for breaking my rules.

Something tells me even that's a lot of money with maybe only a handful of advantages. My laptop's at least five years old and painfully slow. I need it for Quickbooks for the business, and generator software for Kohler. It has done ok so far with the limited use of Durametric. I have no idea how old my enthusiast cable is. Once you get back to the track, someone's bound to help you out with something better. Community is good.

RANT - The MA RMV has seized upon COVID to do what was otherwise unthinkable and deliver an even greater level of sustained and unmatched low level of competency and customer service.

I have been trying to get my registration for 60 days... started 30 days before expiration. 1st registration - "lost in mail", 2nd registration - we show that a replacement was triggered to send, but it did not go out, 3rd registration - showed up today WITHOUT THE PLATE DECAL... I about lost it. Every time they fock this up, it takes trying to get someone on the phone, cause you can't show up at a below par service center...cause COVID... to have them tell me they will fix it and then 2 WKS later receiving the expected news... no, they didn't fix it. If you try to do it at their sweet online service center... they want to charge you another $25 bucks to replace what they have continually screwed up.

So, tomorrow AM I will again, call at 8:50AM... Listen to the 11 minutes of automated "because of COVID", "Use our online", "If you're 65 or over" until I finally get someone on the phone - I will then try, very hard, to not be an absolute *** to the person on the other end of the phone for fear they may intentionally screw up my situation as opposed to you know, just screwing it up because of their general ineptitude.

Can't get the car inspected without the sticker... Looks like I'll be driving to the track on the 10th without an inspection sticker or a registration decal, although I do have the paper... What a story I'll have for the trooper !

End RANT

F the MA RMV

OK, now end rant for real... had to get that last one in.

Ah sorry to hear that. Not sure why DMVs all over can't seem to get it together. In PA they did away with the dumb license plate stickers. I think partially because people would steal them. And when I say steal I mean cut the corner of you license plate out with metal shears! I was able to get my registration done at a tag place but rode dirty for about 5 months with no inspection as I got the car sorted. I think cops know about these issues and as long as you have a copy of the screwed up attempt of renewal you will be ok. Just don't get stopped acting a fool, which I'm sure you wouldn't

z - as an expat 'masshole', I DO NOT MISS going to the RMV...at all.

But I still slip up and call the CA DMV 'the RMV' and you should see the looks I got when I called CHiPs 'staties'...

Thanks for the sympathies dudes !

I won.

AAA for the mf’ing win. They do some RMV transactions and replacement plate stickers in one of them !

They gave me a plate sticker and we laughed together at the ineptitude of the RMV.

Well, I got a little less lazy this AM and pulled the cluster off and gave all 3 connectors a good wiggle jiggle and reseat and no more outside temp sensor ding....

So, at least at accessory on, only error is the airbag light... Going to take it for a rip in a bit and see if either the Cat code or the steering angle fault come back.

Fixed the toe a bit more so it's only 1/8 toe in which means I don't feel bad driving it on the sticker rubber before alignment and corner balance which as of now is going to go down next Tuesday.

I CAN NOT WAIT to see what she weighs in at.
