Still no threaded rod. But I did get a few deliveries. First, the propane guy filled up my workshop tank. Good thing, it was very low and it's been snowing all day. Then UPS brought me a nice present from a member in Florida. Nice packaging and delivered quickly. Thanks M.



Took stock of some parts. Getting a list together for exhaust hardware and coolant hoses.

 

Just putting this out there. Don't, I repeat, don't try to reuse those broken, rusted bolts. They may look like they work but they wont.

Not a chance. I just ordered all new hardware a few hours ago. There are some bolts that are fine - but anything rusty, is going in the trash.

I'm enjoying it too. I'd like it a lot more if I could move forward with the installation of the cams. Maybe the postal service can find my threaded rod...

I sent a package out today. You should see it in a few days.

Didn't take any photos, but I cleaned some coolant pipes, AOS plumbing and exhaust parts. Also installed the M10 studs at the 'front' of the engine for the support. Did a little more organizing and verified what still needs to be ordered. Hopefully I'll see the package I've been waiting on, soon.

 

Say the word and I'll ship the rods and nuts (that sounds bad) out to you in the morning, gratis. I'll even get the packaging correct. I got my economic impact payment (corona virus check) and its burning a hole in my pocket. Even if there are more pressing needs for that money.

Did a quick-fit of the skid plate.



I'll sculpt a couple of closed-cell foam blocks to maintain a gap and reduce the amount of debris collected by the plate. Heat build-up may become a problem. Frequent checks will be needed, otherwise I'll have to keep an air-gap.

Fuzzy/ dirty side down. There's a common saying in rallying: there are two types of rallyists: those that have rolled and those that will. After all these years, I'm still in the latter group. I did put a car on its side though. So I'm halfway there...

 

Funny i have been on my side or all the way over so many times it doesnt even raise my blood pressure. Is that bad? They have all been slow speed rock crawling comps luckily and none at high speed.

btw thx for the good shots of the skid. I welded up some tabs to use my factory skid with my deep sump but i think i need something stonger. Probably gonna make my own ss one similar to ln. Hopefully with less nvh .

I loose assembled most of the UAOS, plus my parts, to its approximate orientation. The pipe in front, would actually be installed to the opposite bank of the engine (#2). This includes the valve in the foreground. That installs at the top of the bank #2 head near the rear of the car



This is about all you should see, once it's in the car (except that little coolant hose at the upper left).

We had the same issue when I sent Scott some tools a while back. Turned out to be my bad.
Pro-Tip: Don't keep your old mailing labels on your desktop, or try to half-a$$ the packaging.

 

Good news that USPS came through.
Since the mail lady came up the driveway to deliver the UAOS, I knew the threaded rod was not coming today. I have an inquiry in with both USPS and the supplier (BelMetric). I'm putting my money on Gary's shipment coming through first.
