look for the DOT -- then it will say a week and a year. something like DOT 1112 --- Week 11 of Year 2012

Passed inspection at the dealer today, so that's a good start.

Unpacked the low mile 996TT shocks and springs going in my 103k mileage C4S with tired shocks and mounts. Major surgery is underway. Trans and diff being removed to go to California Motorsports for rebuilding, these shocks, springs and related hardware going in. Need to buy a new cat or sport cat setup. I guess I'm keeping her 🤪

UOA received on Monday and finally posted. As my Thai colleagues would say, "sorry for late". @islaTurbine, thanks for the bump,

It looks really good for what I saw in the filter and hear after the engine is warm. Maybe I'm looking too closely at the filter.

Attached is an audio file of what the engine sounds like. I took this audio on with my phone, placing it on the ground under the exhaust manifold where it exits the head, with the microphone pointing out.

The internet troll in me wants to write, "I think it's just a lifter" to drive everyone crazy. But I know that's not the case, so I won't. When I discussed this with Jake a couple of months ago, after checking spark plug torque and a belt-less noise check, It's been labeled as early onset bore scoring. Maybe that's what the results are showing. You can hear it, but you can't see it, yet...

So the good news is the engine doesn't seem to be ready to break to pieces so I'll likely be able to drive it until it gets sent off to rehab. There is no bad news because rehab was already in the plan! Now it's time to focus on other things, like the 94000 mile suspension...

Drove it home after the indy changed the AOS on my 2002 C2 cab. The hardtop, bike rack and bike were pretty nice to have since the indy is 42 km away with limited public transportation. The new AOS seems to work and the crankcase pressure (vacuum) increased from -16,1(!) to -4,7 inches af water, measured with my home made slack tube manometer

I've had my '02 C2 since 2008 when I bought it with 32k miles. It has 62.5k miles on it now. This place has been instrumental in my ability to perform most all work myself and successfully diagnose and fix issues. Over the years I have performed the following work, mostly myself, and almost all preemptive: PSS9s, with new x73 strut mount bearings @ 45kmiles, ROW anti sway bars, set to Euro height, FVD Brombacher wheel spacers all around, new tie rods, new water pump (Porsche) & 165F Tstat, coolant tank to latest rev & cap, coolant flush, major underside hoses replaced, AOS, new oil filler tube, new O-rings for intake manifold and water cooled oil cooler, new serp belt, new pulleys, new spin on filter adapter (use M1-107 Mobil 1 filter), oil procedure recommended by L&N for Driven oil use, Porsche skid plate, Guardian Metal detection System, (original group buy) after having magnetic drain plug since purchased (never any metal detected), new bottom sump plate (when inspection done for Guardian), new oil pressure sensor, headlight switch, ignition switch, GT brake scoops, 997 shifter mech with transmission side short shift kit, drain/refill gearbox, Fister muffler mod (all SS) with change of all exhaust bolts to SS, new motor mounts (Reim), front rotors and Akebono pads, replace plastic coolant hose connector @ intake with brass, spring replacement for clutch pedal, and most recently, the past week, another oil & filter change, new 997 coils, and NGK Platinum plugs, ATE rear rotors and Akebono pads, full brake system flush (inc clutch) from ATE 200 Blue to Gold. Only work fdone at Porsche specialist was new clutch, RMS & IMS bearing to L&N hybrid at 50k miles. That's all off the top of my head. There may be more I have just forgotten over the last 12 years. I didn't include non performance engine stuff like new PS2 tires, new speakers, shift ****, frunk lid protector, 3rd new AGM battery, passenger window mechanism, XPEL on lights and front bumper, new windshield, auto dim rearview mirror, garage door opener switch & mod, etc.

Installed Rennline tunable engine mounts today and the difference if very good. I had read that some folks experienced too much vibration and/or cabin noise after doing so but for me it's well worth doing. The originals were pretty extruded, after looking at pictures of new OEM mounts I would guess they had dropped (extruded) to about twice the original length based upon the rubber mount-to-mount housing measurement. I've attached photos of my originals (2001 Carrera Cabriolet) and a new OEM mount (picture snipped from Pelican parts online ad page). I also included a snipped picture of the Rennline replacements I used. I went with what appears to be their "softest" mounts, the yellow bushings for street use. The others are blue for "sport" and red for "race". I can definitely tell there is improved ability for shifting more directly into gear, especially from 1st to 2nd. I do feel a slightly greater amount of vibration but it's more of a "higher pitch" vibe compared to the "sloppy" vibe that was there from the old mounts. Overall I am happy with them, the originals were definitely ready to be replaced. Installation was very easy and straight forward, did not even need to jack up the car (chassis) at all, just used my low profile floor jack and a board to support (ease up) the engine. All the bolts were very accessible. Brake pads all around tomorrow, I did a brake flush shortly after I got the car a couple of months ago and though there's a little bit of life left in these pads they are getting pretty dusty and down to the end of their best usage life. Will be sure to measure the rotors, though they looked fine and surface them a bit during the job as well. Now it's time to head out for a drive!

Replaced my Headlight switch tonight. Nice to have low-beams!

Oil change tomorrow as the car has been sitting for quite awhile.

Need to put some miles on the car to get enough memory stored to smog it.

Stuffed the kids into the back seats and took the family out to dinner for the first time. Getting used to the controls and listening for strange noises. Ran fine and will be back in the garage tomorrow with it up on jack stands doing the ignition and looking around for issues.

I just bought a C4S and thought “listening for strange sounds” was funny because as this is my first Porsche, all the noises seem strange! I keep asking my self “does that sound right?” 🤣

That took me some time, as well. Noises sound different because it is a different engine than what I am used to and it's hanging on the wrong end of the car right behind the rear seats. Now after six years and a reconstructed engine I am good...!

Me too with C4S. New noise arose, which most people didn’t hear. Turns out water pump bearing was going bad.

I went for an early morning high speed run.
My 21 year old son went for a ride along with me.
I surprised him with an impromptu three pedal driving lesson.
He did quite well.
At least he now knows how to drive a manual.
He said he might buy a beater to practice with.

I feel like I’ve done my part to „Save the Manuals!“

My GoPro failed to record any of the driving.
I have Harry‘s Lap Timer and Track Addict, but tried to start it manually so I could run Waze and apparently failed to hit record correctly.
