Learn how to use it and there is no problem in keeping up with the handshifters. The gear changes are smooth and precise and I think that especially the downshifts are faster and more precise than you could possibly do in a manual car. If only the Tiptronic had 5 gears, that would have been nice!

I feel the same on all accounts! One more gear (shorten 3rd & 4th, add a 5th for highway) and if it let you bounce off the limiter for just a second to avoid forced up-shifts…

Wow, you've designed these already?! I'd love to get one too if possible please.

Sure did! :-)

I have 75. They're proper window decals: they adhere to the inside of the window. I'll ship a set of 5x stickers (free) to the next 10 folks that DM me. Regular mail so no promises on shipping speed :-)

They're designed to fend off "is it a stick?" questions:

Haha, this is great! I love the idea behind it, but I prefer to keep my 993 sticker-free.

Default Installation of a New Starter

Installed my new starter yesterday. Man was it difficult. Just like many of the posts I've read, the top bolt was crazy tight. Also clocking over 250K miles on that bucket of bolts didn't help matters either. Nonetheless, using a Wireless Endoscope WiFi Inspection Camera and my iPhone, I snaked it on top of the transmission and projected the "impossible to see" top bolt to my iphone. Then I could make sure that the 6" hex socket stayed straight and stayed in (securely) while torqueing down on that blasted hex nut. The tools used were a 3/8" - 6" hex extension socket, universal joint, (2) 10" extentions, 3/8" to 1/2" converter and 12" breaker bar. The configuration was planted on the passenger's side of the transmission. I read many configurations that could get this hex nut out, but this is the one that worked for me. I couldn't have done it without the help of many suggestions of our RENNLIST family prior to my efforts. Maybe this will help someone else out too. Thank God for RL.

Well done! Is that the new 996 part? I thought I had read that the replacement was an upgrade.

Can you guess what it is yet?

Installed a remote bleed hose - I'll add a write-up to the Remote-bleed thread when I'm all done, and thank all the most excellent Rennlisters involved.

The above are all quite small amounts, as I wanted to monitor the bleed very carefully, looking for leaks. The brake fluid is that color to start with in the final photo.

Should have put one of these in while you were in there....

Naaaahhhh - that red would clash with the car interior.

You know, it's possible, I didn't check out the part number. But it matched the length and width of my old starter perfectly.

The 996T starter motor is noticeably shorter than the original 993 version, and yes it is a significant upgrade, at least in the speed it rotates the engine.

Apologies for the poor photograph.
