So frickin annoying with that 2nd filter location, even the placement of the big filter, ugh!!! But it's done, mess and all! Thanks for letting me vent. I can now go back to loving this work of art

Enjoyed the backroads here in NJ/NY after breakfast at Sunday Motor Co.
Not quite roof open weather for the Targa but glad the temps are up!

It is a nice feeling when you know how much is in the system though, checking the level is another joy...
Just did mine today as I wait on the rest of the interior bits to be finished.

You can use an oil cap wrench and a few long extensions to get the smaller oil filter out without having to remove the oil line. It'll rotate right around the rear swaybar and can be pulled out easily. Some people like removing it though.

For what it is worth, I find the product "form a funnel" (the green thing) really useful at diverting the oil flow and minimizing any mess.
Anyways this past weekend I decided to play with my newly acquired 30L ultrasonic cleaner and clean the two metal heater tubes underneath the car. I used plain dish soap and water. Man this ultrasonic cleaner ROCKS!!!! Set it and forget it! It nuked all the old oil/cosmoline off the tubes ---- I can see myself going to town with this thing from henceforth!

I don't remember where I got the oil filter cap wrench but using this makes getting the small filter out pretty straightforward.

in the process of the oil change right now myself. the green 'form a funnel' is priceless on a 993, imo. love that stupid thing. i'm also pulling the heater tubes and cleaning those this time around, as you did. once again, simple dish soap seems to outperform more expensive cleaners every time for me. those ultrasonic cleaners look great.

Now I only remove part of the red flexible heater pipe to give me access. I use a 3-leg claw which looks the same as the one for sale on Amazon below - you orientate it into the gap under the filter first, then put a socket extender on it. Years ago I wrote a guide on doing an oil change with the least number of 'undos' but no idea where that is now - I'll have a search
.
EDITED TO ADD - can't find the write-up, but here's a photo with my claw - actually the red heater pipe only needs one 'undo', as you can leave one-end attached and simply squash the flexipipe out of the way, but in the photo I did two 'undos' and pulled the heater pipe out completely.

... one "fix it while you're there" quick project ----
I recently bought a set of QuickJacks and I love them. Anyways, one drawback with using the QJ is that you get much more familiar with the underside / lower areas of the car ... because your car is always up in the air! 🤣 I recently found two tiny little dents in my driver's door that I had not noticed at all in my 10 years of ownership. 🤦 So while investigating if the dents could be taken out by the PDR guy, I took off the door panel and decided to fix an infernal rattle that has eluded 2 previous attempts by myself to cure...
The rattle only occurs when the window is rolled all the way down..... and it turns out the issue is old OE sound damping applied to the inner skin of the door has started to fail and curl away --- both at the bottom and top edges. When the window is rolled all the way down, the cad-plated (gold color) horizontal part of the window regulator would get close enough to the bottom curl of the OE sound damping such that bumpy road would cause contact and set up a rattle.
I finally discovered the source of this rattle after many years! I found that using a heat gun would straighten out the sound damping, but the damping would no longer stick. So, I broke off as much of the curled sections of damping I could and encased the remnants in new, ultra sticky Dynamat Xtreme. Rattle fixed.
