Stage one of the floorpan preparation is to skuff the E-Coat on the floorpan with scotchbrite to give the etch primer a better key. It's ready for the etch primer now, but because the GT3 repair is taking paint priority it will not be until late today that we can get the shell back in the booth, mask off the upper body and shoot the etch.

Out on business all day yesterday so here's today's update with two stages in one.

Marc had the shell in the booth, masked off the upper body and sprayed the entire floor area with grey etch primer, finished baking the etch last night and it hardened off overnight ready for stage 3....

... which had Lee "the finger" applying a thin bead of sealant to all the seams and cleaning the excess off with panel wipe.

(Few comments coming back, so you will all please let me know if I am boring you with all this detail, won't you???)

The advantages of having everything on the rotisserie! Roll it around, rotate to the area needing attention.

+993 I keep checking through out the day to see if there are updates I don't have much to say, but the whole process has been amazingly detailed. Kudos to everyone at your shop.

Looks like a color difference in the sealant from the black used in the upper body interior and bulkheads and the white being used here on the belly pan. Is there a chemical difference between the two types?

Don't stop with updates, photo's and details; unless your busy packing 9M to move to the states.

No, it's exactly the same stuff, just a different colour. I don't think there is a reason why Marc has decided to use white underneath, but I'll ask now that you mention it.

What Colin didn't see yesterday - 'cos he was out, I was at 9M, was all the sill sections and box sections being pumped with primer using a fan'ed spray nozzle, and being able to turn the shell means everything is liberally coated over the e-coating.
I really don't think I'll see any corrosion in this shell for an awful long time (if ever)!
Just realised - it's it birthday this week! Now a teenager!

In response to the colour of the sealant, both the same stuff but using light grey on the floorpan because:
a) it is a smoother mix & hence flows slightly easier into the joints than the black
b) ran out of black and had it in stock

Got the message thanks, so I'll keep posting the detail preparation updates as and when I can.
