I won't, not worth the lines here. Only positive takeaway is that at least we know what a few are willing to pay for her if she ever goes back on the market again. BIG IF. Which IF, will be done the good 'ol fashioned way, person to person, handshake, BOS, check + new friendship, title, and everyone is happy.

Nothing like buying in person. Too many cars I’ve bought online and had delivered just felt like another Amazon order. Get out there and meet some people, make friends and do a road trip.

Whenever any of my cars is not on consignment, that is the only way I will ever do it again. I like to turnover the ponies every couple of years to keep the interest so. Going back old school. I think I am done with the online auction game, lifetime. Will just stick to the peanut gallery moving forward. It is safer, and it is free.

Well, AutoKennel's Arctic C2S w/ a hair shy of 61k on odo asking $145k is already sale pending; all within 1 week of listing (in all likelihood less than that).

so... what happens when all the current 'sellers' are done and we're left with people who mainly want to hold? it's possible supply will get even thinner, unless some of these people are optimistic enough to believe they can flip in the near future. possible for interest to wane on the model, if few are available or will interest spike? i find the psychology of the market interesting.

^ Also wonder if some will be left holding the bag. Bought high into something they don't really want or discover is not for them. Market settles a bit lower and they need to sell.

even though we've seen these prices for months now, i sometimes still get surprised by them. 61k miles and $145k. that's a big number and we've seen it repeated over and over again for the last few months.

- Folks that traffic in collectible or near-collectible cars are 1st and foremost emotional beings. Logic & rationality is last on their mind.
- What we're seeing are owners cashing in either via direct selling or enlisting the likes of 911r, Tarek, Paul, Holt et al to flip them (i.e. bought WB at $80k 3+ years ago, one of those aforementioned [no offence meant, and kudos to them for consistently finding high quality p-cars] swooped in and offered $110k [why the heck not] and flipped at $135k-$150k).
- Over the past 8-10 mos, the air-cooled and especially the last-of-air-cooled have become must haves; and yes, even among folks who never thought they'd savor an air-cooled Porsche suddenly find them irresistible.
- In hindsight, what these owners didn't realize is what they believed at the time as great prices can be even greater as the prophecy fulfills on itself. In short, there are way more willing buyers w/ low to high-6-figure checkbook ready to pounce. Had those that sold their WBs at $110ks in Jan 2021 waited until today, that same car would be at $135k+. There simply aren't enough WBs (or NBs for that matter) to satisfy demand.
- Of course Porsche only made a handful (compared to 996/997/991/992) to begin with and they're only getting rarer (low mileage or not, pricing is simply relative).
- In the meantime, the FED and other central banks keep printing currency w/ abandon. Result: asset inflation. Result: folks looking to park some cash somewhere. Air-cooled in vogue. Result: $$$$$$$$$$$$ for 993s and 964s.
- My best estimate: air-cooled and in particular 993 prices aren't going south anytime soon. Will probably go up another 5-10% and then perhaps give that back. But the days of low mileage $85k WBs or $60k NBs are gone (same relative scale extend to higher mileage cars; but in any case we're not going to see the pre-COVID prices anymore).
- What if the stock market crashes: same. P-cars are better places to park cash anyway.

I buy with the thought of, "will I be happy with this car if values tank".
If yes, you can't lose

mdude, yes, agreed most probable as you describe.
For me, the thought of making a bit of profit is a little tempting but doesn't overcome the fear of never being able to replace a car for what I sold it for.

Has anyone been following other marques? Take a spin on BaT...it's not just 993s.
Here are two examples:
Lotus Elise:
This car, yellow, 31k miles, clean car fax, sold in Feb at $31,251 + fees...
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2006-lotus-elise-24/
The relevant comp today is this, sold for $60,500 + fees...
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2005-lotus-elise-98/
And this one is just ridiculous...
This very same 1994 Lamborghini Diablo:
Sold for $109,000 in Jan of '19
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...rghini-diablo/
Sold for $176,000 + $5k fee on May 30 of this year.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...hini-diablo-3/
Great time to sell an "enthusiast" car.

a very relative comp is also the 355 market. very similar percentage jump over the same period. clean, low mileage 355s (GTB/GTS) are now in the same $130-160+k range. these were sub-$100k cars pre-Covid.

Really all gated F cars have been going up for a while. I missed the market for the 550 Maranello and I regret it!
