I wonder if it is something nefarious or if it is just the German business culture, a friend of mine works for a German company and communication is very much on a need to know basis

I am hoping for you all that this is not a fix as much as they were tired of having incessant calls from their dealers and so chose a November 6 date to keep everyone at bay but that potentially you could find that it is released a lot earlier.

Although mine is still to be built and is not due until 1/1/21, the thought of a major issue is concerning especially as I pretraded my 718 and am now sort of locked in to a degree.

I am in the same boat as you. I traded my Cayman in and my car is supposed to be in Jacksonville FL on 12/4. The vehicle I use now is going to my son so after Thanksgiving I"m reduced to bicycle LOL.

How about no more posts unless it's, "I got the call for the dealer"??

Amidst all this uncertainty as to initial delivery dates, any guesses as to DD for an order placed now? I'm planning on placing one and it would be fun to come back to estimates made now.

It would depend on when production is scheduled for, but I think timelines will be unchanged if you order one today. I don't anticipate this dragging out for too much longer (i.e. into 2021). If you have an allocation that locks this week, I expect you to get it late December or start of 2021.

In any case, once the vehicle is approved, deliveries seem to happen very fast for vehicles stuck at port since all the vehicles would have been already PDI'd and are ready for transport.

Fix..hmm..unlikely unless they made a major change from the 2020 models I would think...which are already approved remember. So I think probably this is all due to things taking a bit longer currently with our federal agencies especially processes that normally were done in person that may be done now online or via teleconf and possibly the start-restart of operations in Germany also as well as on this side of the pond. Lots of things that seem to take normally a few weeks now take months with not everyone back up to 100% full speed. Also there is an election going on...that slows up things too in the US in some areas....gotta love the bureaucracy sometimes....lots we don't know guys.

Exactly...people need to be aware an allocation sets the production date/delivery estimate...the order date alone is meaningless in regards to estimated delivery dates as lots of dealers take orders which are not attached to a specific allocation...and a dealer might need to wait months to get a specific allocation.

Just got an email from PECLA that they need to move the delivery from 11/12 to a week later because the official EPA certification is now 11/6. Thought to share.
