Also very interesting the vast difference most people are willing to pay for an allocation (so they can spec) rather than buy off the floor. And I say that because that's essentially what the used market is which makes me wonder how quickly we'll get to that below MSRP point that always happens eventually.
Are the cars on the floor you mentioned not listed anywhere publicly? Are dealers just seeing what they can get with walk ins? Other than the one mentioned a few posts above, are you seeing this at other dealerships?

I haven’t really checked if they are online or not since I have one in production already. But I can tell you that Santa Clarita had 3 992 GT3s, and a couple 991.2s and Beverly Hills had 2 992 GT3s sitting.

I saw all of those within the last 2-3 weeks - no idea if they are still there or what ADM they are asking on them.

I see, I am aware of those cars, they have been marketed. Santa Clarita brought one of the 992s to the LA auto show a couple of months ago, Beverly Hills got in a chalk wing recently they will have no issue holding that one for a while, i believe it is a car they previously sold new. The silver touring they have had for nearly a year now for sale, they are also not in a hurry on that one either as it is on consignment, also sold new by them. I was hoping dealers were getting some additional cars in from what is listed online, but that doesn't seem like the case.

Considering the climate right now that's not too bad for a NEW GT3, but Sofas and PDK is a no for me.

Maybe the only reason they have all that money is because they actually have more brains than money.

People with more brains than money don't buy that kind of car at that kind of price because they are smarter than that. Buyer is very likely an impatient, new money guy or trust fund baby.

People in radically different circumstances make different decisions. They could be older and this is their last hurrah. They could be a collector with **** you money. A nearby dealer had 3 serious bidders for 1 allocation, so 2 VIPs walked away empty handed. Or this could be a strategic purchase for a future limited edition car. As a limited edition, it’s trade in value is going to be a lot higher than a gt3, for whatever the next special thing is.

I’d 100% pay $25k for the allocation I wanted when I first wanted it. My time is worth more than waiting for the right spec used car to come up for auction years later. No reason someone 10x richer couldn’t pay 10x more. Does $250k adm seem stupid to me ? Sure. But I’m not 10x richer

This sounds really out of touch and disconnected from reality. There are plenty of billionaires for whom the price of a car is absolutely irrelevant. Their limitation is basically time: free time, time to enjoy cars, time to shop, time to wait, etc. If a billionaire has a preference for one car over a slightly different car, why should he not spend 2x on the car he prefers? He can buy a different car every day and it won't impact his finances. The only impact is the hassle. So if he sees a car he wants, he buys it. He avoids the hassle and saves time, That is far more important than the money.

I can imagine the guy on the street saying "why do people go to lunch at noon? If they went to lunch at 2pm, there are shorter lines and there is a 2-4pm discount!"

I confess that I was hardheaded in understanding that other people who buy Porsches are not me, and therefore many of them have different motivations to buy the cars and different circumstances financially and otherwise. The ADM which is crazy for one person can be easily rationalized for another person.

I personally look more at the net price of the car more than the ADM. For a car that I’m going to routinely beat up on the track and possibly crash, I personally would like to keep the price under $200k, and I can do that with an MSRP GT3, but not if the ADM is $20k+. But my use case is the more the exception than the norm, and I can see that someone buying the car for the road and putting limited miles on it could have a different financial and value analysis.

Bottom line is that the market is made up of all sorts of buyers, and our collective decisions set the prices. It is what it is. No point crying about it if you don’t like the price, just wait or buy something else or don’t buy anything.

His account has been hacked. Also, he and his wife have recently been doing some watch shopping and have been forced to contemplate why someone would spend a lot of money on a mechanical watch that's much less functional and accurate than a digital watch (his wife bought a diamond-encrusted Cartier).
