First, Boomer was an era. Most agree born between 1946 and 1964. So, if you aren’t one you can’t “become” one. If there is a moniker for an old Gen Xer, I would be the last to know I’m sure. Younger than that means still too young to worry about it.

Second, when I went full old man for a DD, I looked hard and drove both more than once before opting for an S550 4matic. Fast, comfortable, significantly less than a comparably equipped Panamera 4S and nothing else screams old man car quite as clearly. IMO.
I would have probably ordered another one if this one didn’t depreciate faster than I lost my hair. So, I bought the extended warranty and am still driving my ‘16 for another two years or so...

Love 911s but have never been a big fan of the Panamera. I guess I’m a victim being a boomer owning a 911 in the 80s, but I still can’t over Porsche putting 4 doors on my favorite car. So my personal preferences (if you care ...my other cars are Land Rovers (Sport and a Defender). If I was going to pick a sedan it would probably be an M5 over the Merc or Panamera.

Reading this thread would have me believe that I can sell my 911 and live happily ever after. I have no idea what the car is worth and would rather continue enjoying it.

Eggsactly.

It's like the inflated housing market. Yes - in many areas prices are way up. BUT that means anything you'd replace with is also UP. Entry into a 911 is steep at the moment but even if any of us wanted to sell, what would you replace it with that was better and/or not just as inflated? Nothing is the answer. I bought and sold homes last year and I was okay with paying a premium on the new place because the old place sold for more than I expected. Bonus for crazy interest rates but it was the right move since our family doubled in size.

No plans to sell the 911 - will probably give it to my kid someday. Was thinking old man DD.

What is the guesstimate on how overpriced current cars are in percent above what they should be?

You missed my joke mate.

I was considering an S class since the wife's Merc has been bullet proof. I just love the Panamera's style so much.

This has actually been a very helpful topic and thread, thank you, everyone.

I'm officially in the market! I'm going to do this, just get the car I really want and cost be damned to an extent.

I have a deposit down on this one https://chambers.porschedealer.com/u...rader_listings

and am in talks with this car too https://www.responsemotors.com/used-...rrera-s-c-592/

but not sure which one I would really want, tough to do being in an area with no cars to test drive.

Tough call. Both had similar MSRP $141K-$145K and are worth about the same now. The biggest difference is 2017 S is a 991.2. I like the way the GTS looks and some prefer the .1 NA, but I personally prefer both the S and the .2 updates. Highly subjective of course.

Yeah, it's tough. Haven't seen many GTS with the Alcantara delete and wheels delete, I like that! I like having my back cooled

That makes the GTS more like an S. They even have about the same HP (430 vs 420). Research the differences between the 991.1 and 991.2. That’s the biggest difference. eg NA vs Turbo and other updates.

Done a lot of research there already.

Default gt4 linkage

You may want to try changing the linkage to the GT4 version in your GTS. It totally changed the 7 speed for me for $300 and an hours work.

I'll start by saying the GTS is an AWESOME car, I absolutely LOVE it! I was looking for a GT3Touring, and happened to find a 911R for a very reasonable price in April, so I bought it. I have put well over 1000 miles on the car since, and I plan to put around the same every year. They are very different cars in the following ways:

The R is way more raw, way faster, louder (especially in the cockpit), stops better (PCCB), and drives smaller (if that makes sense). The GTS feels like a luxury coupe as compared to the R.

Transmission: 6 vs 7 speed. The feel of the 6 speed transmission is very different from the 7 in the GTS. When I only had the GTS, I often wished for a 6 speed tranny. The gears are longer and engage in a much more committed way, if that makes sense. The shifter snaps/locks into place as compared to sliding/gliding into place of the GTS. The 7 speed transmission in the GTS seems like an afterthought as an MT as compared to the R transmission.

Clutch: The single mass lightweight flywheel clutch in the R spools and engages like a rocket, as compared to the GTS. It also has a really loud gravely sound when in neutral at idol. This is a big difference.

The 911R is flat out loud in the cabin when running at a reasonable RPM (3K+). Remember, lots of noise dampening was removed from the car, plus it revs up to 9k, vs 7.5K. . The R just feels lighter, louder, faster, snappier, more engaged, and way more raw as compared to the GTS. I cannot compare either to a GT3, but I hope to change that soon. Anyway, hope this helps.

Just a quick review because you asked. Feel free to PM me for more information. Again, both are awesome cars, just very different. I feel very fortunate to own both cars

Thanks,
Phil

that GTS doesn’t have the GTS interior package which is about $4k I think.
