I know the feeling. I had a 911 in the 80s, and I have missed it ever since. Just recently picked up a like-new 2019 C2S MT. The 991s rock! I am in love again - please don't tell my wife

Tightwads like that think they'll live forever and just too grumpy to have any fun. Good for you, and stay away from the Camry as long as possible.

I'm with you! Will be retiring in the next 18 months or less and I finally got my wife to agree that it was time to buy a newer Porsche before I was to old to actually enjoy the car. Timing was perfect as we ran across a smoking deal on a 2014 Turbo S in August. Now my biggest problem is prying the steering wheel out of her hands. After almost 45 years of marriage I'm convinced she loves the car more than me! Once Covid lifts we intend to use the TTS as our travel car to go investigate new places and sites.

Suggestion, take a look at Haggerty or one off the other specialty insurers. Haggerty will insure new vehicles at fixed valuations, as long as they are not daily drivers. I have the TTS insured for a fixed $115K for $1700 for a full 12 months of coverage.

One of my favorite quotes was something like “Middle Age - The point in life at which you are finally making enough money to purchase the things that only a young man could truly enjoy”

Congrats on convincing your better half and enjoy the ride!

I literally just took what was in my "car fund" and threw it into the stock market last night. I figure, 1) It'll make a lot more there than as cash, 2) Allow me to wait out the used car market.

I look at this as a win/win and it will allow me to purchase the car I want and not based solely on price.

Glad to hear you are near normal. A friend of mine who definitely lives for today scolded me as I was painfully considering the 911- "so you'll wait until your left leg goes numb and can't drive it?". I agreed and got off the fence.

Congrats on your Carrera S! I came to a similar conclusion, waking up to view a modern Porsche not as "X dollars" but "X dollars minus whatever I'm already spending on a cheap/bland daily driver." The delta, and the realization that I've only got so many miles of driving left (and no guarantee it's more than one…), changed some things—especially as we don't "live big" in midlife (less and less need for "stuff," very little leisure time in this chapter). So why not make every mile count?

Btw, I once saw a Camry going down the road with a bumper sticker that said "Drum Machines Have No Soul."

Exactly! We are both healthy and given the uncertain times, we both looked at each other and asked what are we waiting for? Money was not that big an issue and both kids are kicking butt in the world and do not need us for anything. It's the two of us again and a dog. The future is now.

REALLY glad to hear you are 99% back to normal and in only six months. A family member had the same six years ago, living on 3x longer than predicted but never walking again.

Life is short—and may be shorter. So if you love to drive…

probably had the more serious type of stroke(name i cant remember) its where some plaque type substance flows and gets into brain and blocks larger areas and thus more damage..

Glad to hear your recovered well.

In my case, my wife had a massive cerebral hemorrhagic stroke Dec 2016, her second stroke. How she survived, I don't know. After 1 year in various medical facilities and nursing home, I brought her home. To say it changed our lives is an understatement...she's mentally and physically disabled for life now. And she's only 55 now. I was writing $10K checks/month for 9 months for her nursing home plus crazy medical bills. Kinda changes your financial perspective after that. Took me till last year to finally recover mentally, and I said screw it...buy it now or give most of it to Uncle Sam eventually (has to do with elder care laws). Started looking in April and finally got one in July. Still didn't splurge though...got a high spec but high mileage 2012 C2S. LOVE IT!! My first and hopefully more to come. Lesson learned...life is short, tomorrow is never promised. Enjoy it while you can.

I spend more than that. Don't assume everyone is of equal means.
