it was pretty base and that’s what I was looking for. Wanted simplicity.
Good for you. Probably worth $70K.

Yeah I went through this with my 981 Boxster GTS, a lot of similar discussion happening for some time over on that board; "last of the N/As and last of the 6s". The 4.0 GTS comes along and it's a similar discussion for the 992; it's just such an expensive "upgrade" and the 981 GTS cars are so appealing at a much lower price point so it does seem to be driving value upwards. Or so I thought heading to the dealer to trade it in.

You just can't reason with the dealer in that sense. Their goal is to maximize their profits, and the tools they use to do that seem to lag behind what we think the market is doing.

So TL;DR, mine was one of only 2 available in the entire country with a manual transmission. It had a few extra miles (67k), but the only other one listed for sale (in the country) was asking $74k. I actually had another buyer from this board with a soft offer of $50k, but that fell through last minute... dealer ended up giving me $43.5k. I took it because I had a car in the spec/color/mileage/etc. that I wanted.

Was back on the lot later that week, certified, asking $55k. Was gone in less than a week.

That dealer is low-balling you by at least $5K, worth another $5K private. He probably will list it at least $100K+. Doesn’t seem fair. Maybe you should try another Porsche dealer just to get a higher appraisal, then force your dealer to match it. You may even be able to do it remote.

Great advice. I heard CarMax is great for that. We must unite and defend ourselves The numbers I shared are KBB - the same numbers the dealer uses, so he's definitely holding out on you.

if you think Carmax is great at making strong offers for buying cars then I have some magic potions to sell you....

Carvana and Vroom offer the strongest buyout offers from what I’ve seen... Swift is good as well if you’re in California.

Carmax has always disappointed me.

I traded an Audi A4 in at CarMax years ago and was shocked what they game me vs the dealer and the process was pretty quick/easy. Don't forget to consider the tax difference as well depending on how that works in your state.

Thanks Wolfden. I will definitely use this strategy if/when I plan my next trade-in.

I've sold 2 cars to Carmax. Both times they were the top offers. Some of the newer platforms weren't in the marketplace at the time but both time there was a substantial advantage vs going to the dealer. My experience is statistically irrelevant and you getting a low offer or knowing a couple people is also materially irrelevant. I'm just saying, if you have one close by then it's worth seeing what they will do. Nobody is being forced to go there and give them a car.

Counter-point, I've sold 2 cars to Vroom and they were better than Carmax by far. If I am selling a car (non-Porsche DD kind of car), I'm getting quotes from Vroom, Carvana and Carmax before deciding - luckily that's only a couple hours of work combined. I will say Vroom has been very easy and convenient to work with (especially if you have title in hand).

Great info, thanks guys. I turned the dealer down and will see what Carvana, Carmax and Vroom will offer.

Don’t rule out the approach of leveraging another Porsche dealer. Could be an easy transaction, you’ll save on the net tax, and your Porsche dealer wants you to buy more Porsches from them, not their competitor. These are not mutually exclusive options.

Hey Brizz, she's a beauty! I like the dark (satin?) "S" wheels with the white. Is this your first 911? Enjoy!
