Crazy times.

The thing that just happened, whatever you want to call it.. Caused a lapse in production. Demand is higher than the supply. Simple economics, this will eventually slow down and end.

If you're thinking about selling, list it high and hope for the best folks.

Good Lord, even the 991.2 base is hitting $95K. This is making my track insurance very expensive.

How long will the craziness last and how long could I hold out without a Porsche? Another $10K increase and I would really consider it. 3.5 year of ownership, 32K miles at a cost of $5K??? Not a bad deal.

Find a 5 year old truck for under 25....two year old Tacoma's are listed for more than a new one.....its crazy.

There is a nice 2014 FJ Cruiser down the street for 47K??????? With 99k miles.

That is bonkers
I have been shopping for 4th Gen V8 4x4 4Runners 150-200k miles are being listed at 20-29k!!! I found one at 14k and jumped all over it, when pre covid they could be had for under 10k.

Crazy times.

I feel the same way. I narrowed it down to the only vehicles I would consider moving downmarket for:
- Golf R (fun car but wife hates the look, I don't like the touchscreen madness of the new cars)
- 2022 Civic Type-R (loved the current one - wife doesn't like haha, a blast to drive, and would only consider the new one if they made it less boy-racer look)
- Audi S5 Sportback (good deals can be found on these, but they are a little boring coming from a 911)
- new Bronco (one year wait even after they start deliveries, will be everywhere)
- Cayman S n/a engine (the pricing has gone up on these as well...)
- Maybe one of these new RC cars if I completely give up on driving excitement and just want an appliance to take me places (i.e. Tesla, Hyundai, etc.)

I bought my 991.1 targa a few months ago. To my surprise the value seems to have increased.....

Stage for all this was set on the supply side a year ago…

New car inventory problems, June 2020: https://www.cars.com/articles/as-new...to-buy-422507/

to put it all in somewhat of a General context, I recently sold our 17 yr old minivan for 3X KBB value via Facebook market place. Supply/inventory is non-existant and hence why I was able to ask and sell for a random $$$ number I literally pulled out of my butt.

Who wants to hear bad news? I sold my 991.2 GTS at THE WORST possible time. February 2020. Didn't have to sell. Didn't need to sell. I got caught up the in panic and the "GREAT DEPRESSION IS COMING" crap and sold as a precaution.. Literally costed myself 30-40k by pulling that move. Carmax, Manheim, the flipping dealer, and the next buyer all made a killing off my expense. Lesson learned. Don't believe the fake news.

I don't even want to post the price I sold it for. It was low. Very, very, very, very low.
i did a similar thing for similar reasons in March 2020 with an investment. zig'ed when i shouda zag'ed. lost about the same. it sucks.

I was recently offered $85K for my '17, base, manual with 22K miles. Sticker was $104, I paid $94 (new), 4 years ago. While very attractive, a new 992 (which I am not pining for) would be around $130K+, need a manual so need an S, so, not worth it for me. Plus, I LOVE my car, and the mods (SOUL Sport Cats, Numeric shifter & cables, Softronic Tune) etc. so no deal. Looking forward to Watkins Glen DE end of July, especially with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber.

Very good point, a factor that makes most of these resale values a moot point is that most replacements are far more expensive than they have ever been.

It doesn't matter that 991.1 or 991.2 are going for record breaking trade-in and resale values, when any lateral or comparable model is also far more expensive than it ever was. Instead of looking at Dollar numbers, lets look at percentages, and we might be surprised that not much has changes in that aspect.

Inflation aside, at some point there will be a reckoning wrt prices as other factors like shortages, crazy disposable income, etc come back into line. I cannot time the stock market so I doubt I can time the car market either but it is interesting to think about. If all prices remain sticky, all I can say is yikes!

This bubble will break and people can ask all they want for a car but are people buying? I suspect a year from now these used car prices will drop considerably. Too many buyers get taken out of the market once the pricing threshold is reached and people say not this year. I can't see spending $85k or more for an out of warranty 2013 991 S. Makes no sense unless you have money to burn and don't care about resale value.

I am sorry to say I parted with my “perfect” 991.1 GTS. Albeit it was a PDK but perfect mechanically and aesthetically. I wish that a rennlister had gotten it but a dealer snapped it up on day one. My 992 is on a boat but I have regrets already. I loved that car as much as any I have owned. It had soul and was special.
