I'm not trying to hijack this thread, and I know the subject has been brought up before, but can I ask folks who've been side to side with an R and a GT3 why they love the MT so much? I love PDK, but I've never tried a Porsche MT. MT is kind of fun, but the PDK is phenomenal.

I'm trying to decide on my .2 allocation MT vs PDK, and the only people who have had the experience are R owners.

Thanks for the review CAlexio.

Has anyone else found roughness at the top end with the SMFW?

Having read Evo's review of the new GT3 it seems that although it's engine and steering is better the R is still unique in it's agility and, among 991s, it's responsiveness to weight transfer.

Default "991R" Personalized Black Plate

Thought I'd share my California personalized plate "991R". I have it on one of my Porsches. Really belongs on a 991R!

Not sure what roughness means? done a 300 mile round trip in mine today, Flat out through the gears up to rev limit many times.

Not sure what part is "rough" its not the box, that's a like rifle bolt, don't think its possible to have a lighter Clutch. Not the engine either that spins up like a fast sports bike....

If I was going to critical, I would like a bit firmer damping on the front end...

I wish i had never made that post.. if I were to refine my words I would now use the word "weakness at the top" or "plateauing at the top" or "slower to rev" or "not as enthusiastic as it felt driving it with a pdk in an RS", hopefully all those words are less offensive than "roughness".. it wasn't rough ok? Just think of it as #fakenews #sad #hashtag.

Luckily now there is the new GT3.2 valve train to compare it to with a manual so I can be let off the hook for my unintentionally insensitive comment.

I'm going to go hide now

Lol....
Did not think you were being insensitive at all, its your view and you are entitled to it....Think I know what you mean, would be nice to have the last 500 rpm at the top end.

+1 regarding MT vs PDK debate.

IMO I'd like the GT3 6MT more because it's one of the last NA plus MT near-super cars around. I know not the last by any means as we have Mustang, Viper, Corvette etc..

Basically I'm leaning towards PDK if I get one, partly because I'm 52 with a left knee that has seen better days. I can drive MT not any problem now, but not sure if it'll be the same when I'm 60+

good discussion at 16:00 minute mark

https://drivetribe.com/p/AAtdiPf7Soe...S82EKZd9B-0-Gw

if you want to be a track hero = PDK
if DD with traffic = PDK
if you want a drivers car (aka weekend fun toy) = 6MT

There is absolutely no roughness at the top end in our 991 R. I drove from Sweden to Goodwood Festival of Speed for the weekend in our R and this car is just incredibly fun to drive! In my book even more fun to drive on the road (have not done any track driving) than our RS 4.0. The engine is just flying up to the top revs and the handling is so light and precise. A delight!

This is a video of a fellow poster driving his R as hard as it will go at a private track event in France. In the video he's followed by a very heavily modded Xbow and he's still taking it relatively easy compared to some later battles. He also drove against a 991RS driven by an experienced racer and there was nothing in it. Was epic to see see the car going around at those speeds and enjoyed some great pax laps too.
