If I had $400k to spend, then best track car ever driven, comfy for road and ballistically fast that can be used for every single day, ?... 675LT.
Having seen the 720s, with its toned down exterior and similar specs to 675LT.. might just be the car which takes over the sports car market and never gives it back. I'm a Mclaren believer now.
2 different price ranges... which highlights to me how a GT3 at $143k is such a ridiculous steal.

911R:
-what a 911 should be, at it's core. really nice engine, not too much sound deadening but still usable, great short ratio gearbox which was a pleasure on a short technical track like AMP, all 2,3,4 shifts. I was wrong, thanks for the correction Busdriver, this one did not have Trofeo R's, but it still slipped all over the place in the rain and morning dampness. Later on the track it felt planted and very confidence inspiring when it got dry as long as i didn't drive above 7-8/10'ths.. brakes were super confidence-inspiring, and i didn't feel weight transfer like for example on 488 which was a pig on track. great front end, really fun car on track, but of course, slower than the other stuff out there today.. the only shortcoming I could say is that the top of the rev-range was underwhelming. It just didn't surge like i expected it to.. i had never noticed this with the RS at the same track.. PDK probably masked this??... but having to shift myself, and being careful not to reach very top of range to stay on safe side.. I was left needing a little more. I hope the gt3 engine fixes this. If I could only have one car forever just for the road, of all the ones there today.. the 911R would have been it, because it would have kept me engaged in looking for more on the track for a long time. Nothing like shifting for yourself.. and i was cheating using rev-match... lots more to uncover there.

What did it feel like above 7-8/10ths? Did it just have a little more old-school instability (that adds character on the road) like say a 997 GT3 or was it something different?

One sub $200k car forever to drive on road and play around on track very occasionally , 911r (or manual GT3 for a mere mortal like me)...

Macs are good; have made massive strides in a few years, and have performance at another level, but having briefiy owned a 570GT, I think they have a way to go on producing a consistently good and reliable car. LT is an expensive car to track (disks especially)

I debated whether to add this link, as its a bit of a home video with some **** poor iPhone shooting and iMovie editing meant as a record for us a friend group, with silly inside jokes etc. but I figured that it might be entertaining to watch nonetheless. All identities private on purpose, thanks for helping maintain that. :-)
Just for kicks.. that's my little "chris Harris in a P1" impression at 1:43 and 6:20.. gaaaawd that p1 is fun to slide a bit... won't forget those laps anytime soon.

Great write up - I test drove a 488GTB late last year - it was very strange. In fact I'd go as far as to say I was disappointed, it was fast but actually less engaging than my 981 GTS (at least on the road). Also, the two little rectangular LCDs either side of the center display were very primitive in appearance (although extremely flexible in detail) for a car that is >$500k over here. Moreover, the paintwork was pretty ordinary.
I'm with you on the Maccas and have slowly moved in that direction over the last six months

I will say that if you see the 720s in person, it really looks different, better. The shape is very organic, and is truly a new design language. The interior is so nicely finished and designed, it wouldn't be out of place in a mercedes concept car. Then when you hear the engineers discuss the very smart aero solutions all hidden within the bodywork, you can't help but get passionate about how hard they are working to push the game forward.
I am also very impressed with the 720S. Its looks and performance on paper. I am sure the handling will be awesome.
Seems to me a lot of the design element were passed on from the P1 and I love the P1.
