Thanks - it is an incredible car - a pleasure to drive and can't wait to get through the break-in miles...

Definitely driving up to Monterey but not with the R this time - we just did 2 week road trip in the 981 Spyder with the LWB's so the wife wants a bit more comfort this go around...
Drove the R this morning on a spirited route in the canyons, and it really was exhilarating.
Can't wait to keep adding the miles.

Ha no plans to change the stripes on the RS at this time...
Drove the R another 100 miles today - starting to come into its own...this car loves to rev. Very fun driving the back roads in the Malibu canyons this morning and again later today. This car just makes you want to keep driving. The wonderful, precise transmission, dialed-in suspension and neutral steering settings really make this car so entertaining in the twisties. Can't stop driving...

Amazing combo! Green stripes on the R are perfect. Are they a tad darker than Viper? Congrats!

Thanks! It is pretty close, maybe a bit darker...but complements it well! I really really love this car!

I just followed common sense, and the handbook - didn't (don't) drive it hard when cold or hold revs at a constant level for too long; went up and down the rev range, inc to max. Same way I've run in cars for 30 years and never had a problem yet.

Just turning 5k miles, more than one trackday, (and now on second set of tires). It's running and sounding noticeably better than ever, and anyone who's not driving them hard is missing out.
Glad that you are using your car properly!
And all good points – agreed that break-in is more common sense than precise science.

Here is some background on Preuninger's break-in recommendation...

The break in recommendation was told to me by AP in 2015 and again by my host at the factory last year. This was said in response to my question as to what kind of person would have the self-control to follow the recommendation in the owner’s manual - 4000 rpm limit for the first 2000 miles! Apparently nobody at Porsche does that! AP’s break-in recommendation is just as much to break in the other mechanical components as the engine, and for the new owner to get used to the car. And for me, it was a welcome and realistic way (but still respectful and semi-official) compared to the torturous break-in recommendation in the owner’s manual.

And correct, that the factory owned cars are either not broken in at all, or at most driven with some restraint for the first ~250km and that’s it. But, AP’s recommendation is what is given when taking delivery at the factory – so good enough for me.

[For reference, AP’s break-in recommendation is 5k rpm limit for the first 1000 km, then add 1k rpm. And every following 500km, add an additional 1k rpm. In the early days, most important to vary the rpm, not lug the engine, and avoid continuous high load operation.]

What a fantastic pair or cars! Also, very nice that you got the more classic looking xenon lights instead of LEDs on the R.

The 911R is a very special car indeed - enjoy!

Thanks! Really enjoying all of the cars. The 991 RS is so different from the R - a different personality. Drove the RS this morning and the R yesterday all day. Glad to have both, for sure. Drove my 993 Carrera S today, and it has an analog feel to it that the R hits upon. You can tell the relation in noise and feel, even though the 993 has half the hp. I think this is why the R connected with so many people - it feels really old school, despite the increase in girth.
Here is a pic of those two together...you can see the size difference...

Fully agree about the 993 driving DNA in the 911R.

Very nice mural-sized Porsche photos/posters in your garage.
