Nizer, that's quite a series of GT3s you've had. How about a comparative review of the '10 GT3 RS, '11 RS 4.0, '15 GT3 and '16 GT3 RS to keep us going until the R's emerge from hibernation.

Great photos, BusDriver. Glad I'm not manufacturing compact cameras when you can get shots like that with a phone.

Seconded. Would love to read that!

Agreed! Phone cameras have gotten so good that there is no need for a regular camera in most situations.

Btw, the gearshift video works when viewing rennlist on my phone but not on my laptop. In any case, here's the direct YouTube link:

The latest Total 911 magazine (issue 148) has a comparison of RS, R, and 7.2 GT3 4.0. I recall the RS had the best 0-62 mph time (3.3 sec RS vs 3.8 sec R vs 3.9 sec 7.2 4.0). The test driver had many of the same impressions I read here, high HP, driver involvement, lateral weight transfer, etc. Read the article, but there is one quote -- "The R is truly a wonderful 911, it's involving and edgy, and requires intelligence to drive. But in terms of sheer performance, it cannot conquer the latest RS offering". He did say he was all sweaty after driving the R, whether that was from aggressive weight transfer or fear at 170+ with no rear wing, I do not know He definitely liked the grip and stability of the RS. But have a look. I have no dog in the hunt. I like them all, wish I had any one of them.

I saw that on the newsstand yesterday and dutifully read the summary. It certainly makes a strong point about why we love manual transmission cars, meaning we're happy to go a bit slower and have that enhanced level of driver involvement.

The 911R’s 0-62 mph time is compromised by its 4k rpm limit at launch, compared to 6700 rpm for the 991 RS. And obviously, the magazine did not do their own performance test - just quoting factory figures.

The 911 R is definitely not slow even though it is a very involving car…

Once moving, the 911R has excellent acceleration performance and is quicker than the 991 RS after 60 mph. In fact, the R accelerates as hard as the current 911 Turbo above 60 mph. And actually pulls ahead of the Turbo after 120 mph!

Overall, I found the 911 R to be surprisingly fast on the autobahn.

Default 911R v GT3 RS

Fun to watch. Too close to call. Both cars are so, so capable. Both drivers have bigger ***** than me. I still prefer my MT car.

Default More....

Great driver. So all the RS owners that didn't get an R this looks pretty definitive to me. I also get the impression that the driver might have started to get a little sweaty in the R by the end of the lap. It seemed the RS could have done lap after lap after...

Conclusion? The RS is just unf..n believable on the race track. The wing, PDK really makes a difference. But I still like MT for me.

Assetto Corsa is a sim, not the real thing.

Nope, a simulator. Video game! Computer graphics are good these days.

Default Fake

I apologize and feel like a fool. The "Ring" looks fake on a 2nd look. Well at some point I hope someone will actually get out of their chair, put on a helmet and test both cars together.

Welcome to the future. I guess that's why I like the windows open, a twisty road and a MT so much.

This is a Videogame simulation. how is his relevant?

Edit: maybe this was tongue in cheek and I missed the joke, feeling dumb now
