Default Just forget the plaque.

I don't care whether they made 91, 991 or 9,000,991. I agree with Busdriver. Not GT3 or GT3RS. To me more superbike than race car; or maybe a much faster modern 964RS. Up to 5000 RPM its a very spry modern (991) 911. I find it very easy to drive and not very loud. No problem with telephone calls, listening to music or even the LWFW in traffic. During the break-in I wasn't even sure if my 997.2 RS wasn't faster. But something happens to the car around 6000 RPMs +. You know that grin that you get when you take a MT 911 by the scruff of the neck? The R becomes a wild animal. Fun, fun, fun. Hot Rod is correct.

Is there such a thing as a "disgruntled" RS owner?
That would be a very sad human indeed...

While this thread is about sharing driving experiences, it is hard to relate how great of a car a 911R is, until you get to drive one, better yet own one. Reading one's experiences is a "Bird's eye view" of what to expect on the car and what it can do and provide to the driver.

I have only less than one-hundred miles on the odometer so I can't publish a full accounting of my 911R. Even then, I can tell this 911R is without a doubt a very special car if I compare this against my GT3RS and GT4. This 911R is the car I have been looking to own and drive until the very end. At MSRP, this car is perfectly priced for the "Driver Engagement" it can provide, plus more. Just my $0.02.

Drive safe,
GT3RS-Fan1

Default driving impressions

One more thing.....I know that myself, Footsoldier and Busdriver are not trying be in anybodies face that "we have one and you don't". It's only by the grace of the great automobile OZ that I have one. I personally don't feel comfortable in PDK or semiautomatic gearbox sports cars. It's probably because I'm old. I know how good they are and I would have loved a 991 GT3 RS manual. It wouldn't be as fast on a track as the PDK car but it would be my preference.

But I also love hearing driving impressions of cars I'll never own or have a chance to drive. A few examples come to mind.... Brian Redman and the 908/3....Daring Drivers Deadly Tracks A great read if you haven't already.

Derek Hill '64 GTO

Kevin Jeannette and Brian talking about 917/004

His account of driving the 917 and Pedro Rodriguez's 1970 BOAC famous race in the rain is just fantastic.

I feel the same way and I'm not old. I couldn't touch this car but I fully appreciate it! I really enjoy reading your impressions and others. Never mind the naysayers,AP has been telling them how great pdk is,how fast it is,how this engine revs too fast for a manual and what a small department they are to produce both transmissions. Now Porsche silently released the highly awarded GT4/R with a manual and owners come here to tell them why they think these cars work. Also a 991.2 GT3 with a manual is imminent. It's like their whole World and reality got flipped upside down. Lol!

Thank you GrantG for telling me by PM that the speeds at 7,000 rpm for the GT4 looked wrong and for giving me the ratios. Apparently my source for the relative ratios after including tyre sizes was flawed so I went back to basics using an online tyre size calculator. I also found from an old Road & Track data sheet that 2nd to 6th gears for the 996.2 GT3/RS were wrong and corrected them.

I'm pretty the charts are accurate now but let me know if you see any more errors. If anyone has ratios for the 996.1 GT3 I'll include it.

It seems pretty much the perfect Porsche for the current era. The only things I question are:
- With so much more grip than previous generations is it possible to manipulate the handling as much on the road?
- Are the technical benefits of EPAS worth the reduction in feel?
- The wide, thick, matt stripes on an otherwise elegant car. If they were painted on they would integrate better. However they are a delete option.
