You're welcome. Enjoy your GTS and I'll enjoy my GT3. We'll both be happy.
I'm not purchasing a GTS. I don't think it's worth the upgrade after configuring it. Might be a decent daily car if I didn't have a 2S already. I'm gonna look for a 997.2 3rs to add instead.
While the DFI motor is not campaigned in the 991 Cup / 991 RSR, it is run in the Cayman Intersies and by several teams in the Continental Tire Series in Porsche Caymans.
Guess that means the 9a1 block has racing pedigree.
Ryan
The 9a1 has zero racing pedigree under the FIA GT3 label. In your honor I'm changing the new proper name to the 991 GTS-R Interseries!
We just covered this. Why do you keep repeating it? Why....?
Oh, right.....see video clip above
Mike thanks for pointing out the obvious. Who would have thought a 2.7l motor would be nearly completely different from a 3.8? Wow. ...and to think I thought the motor was exactly the same!
Regardless -- they are both derivatives on the 9a1 design.
I have to give you credit for functioning as a 1 man team in this exchange. It has been very entertaining to say the least, but I am starting to feel like I am stuck in an asylum. Let's move on to discussing the relative merits of the GTS.

No they just all agree it's a great car and maybe the best of the cars labeled GT3.
The 991 GT3 has a lot of great parts in it. It's clearly one of the best street 911 ever made if you disregard the transmission debate. ....but it's not a homologation for the race car, it doesn't share many parts with it (guys have come up with suspension, chassis, rear bumper, and brakes), and therefore based on the sum of its parts it's not really a GT3 except in name.
The GT3 is not a race car. The GT3 Cup car is a race car. Just because it shares the "GT3" part of the name does not mean GT3 owners believe they own race cars. Do you get that or are you just a pillock?

Enjoy your car in good health
If you find that 997.2 GT3 RS please do us a favor, call it a GTS-RS.
Dan (hopelessly expects consistency from the irrational)

I mentioned the connection with the Boxster only because you brought it up. The lack of commonality of parts is also true between the 3.8 in the 991 GT3 and the 3.8 in the Carrera. It has nothing to do with displacement, it's because they are of different design.
Some smart people have pointed out the futility of this argument. Time for me to "leave the room"....
The GTS "configurator" is up and running in the U.S. Sadly, Porsche erred with the sport buckets, promoting on its website earlier this morning -- they're not available in the U.S. I guess I'll have to stop calling it a GT3-lite....
