Trying to understand the logic of four turbos on 3.9L motor generating target 600hp. Electric turbos are addressing the issue of lag from using fewer large turbos and four turbos seems a lot of extra plumbing, weight, and complexity if you're only after 600hp.

Regardless, I trust it'll be sweet; just hope they can keep some of the epic flat-eight noise intact.

 

With hybrid availability, there is no need for electric turbos, since hybrid fills that gap quite easily. four turbos is ridiculous for 600HP. It will never remotely be competitive at that power level, and they are grossly sandbagging, as such a car could easily make whatever horsepower they would like and in the future.

 

What's the big deal about the upcoming RS release? You already seen all the specs , pictures, etc, etc. Is it the price? Please help me get excited as well

 

a while ago, i said 350pages by Mar 3rd. Now Im going to say 380pages after the reveal!

 

I'm looking forward to see the price and number of cars they plan to build.

well, some are holding on to the 0.00000991% chance of a proper manual transmission.

 

Not until the 991.2 RS I would think. And who knows, maybe that is how they will force a Kers or hybrid system down our throats.......here's your manual.....and it needs a hybrid engine to meet regulations.

 

A few German publications have stated that a manual could be offered if there is a high enough demand for it. But given the volume of these cars that will be produced, and how they'll sell all of them in less than a heartbeat, I can't see how they would judge demand, much less produce MT cars.

 

There may be a manual but it wont be this generation. I believe PAG are trying to keep the peace, and that the GT4 will satiate all demand for a manual. Other than a special edition I cannot see a manual as it will hurt the cars performance and the car is now targeted hard by its competitors since it did such a great job of beating everything within 150,000 USD of it last time!

I bet that we will have an interview of AP presenting the car on the EVO youtube channel on Monday during the day and the configurator open in the evening. This is how Porsche did it for the 991 GT3 two years ago for the launch in Geneva.

 

Not to mention that many of the same publications said the exact same thing about the 991.1 GT3 and with production of that car about to end there's no MT in sight, unless you want a GT4 instead....

 

So you think that they will give us info before the actual launch on tuesday?? Hope so!!

 

Am'I the only one thinking that Porsche didn't put PDK into a GT4 not to satisfy manual gearbox demand but not to undermine GT3 'reputation'?

Don't misunderstand me, I'm a GT3 addicted but let's compare Nurburgring laptimes between Cayman GT4 and 991 GT3 - there are roughly 10 seconds - now let's imagine a Cayman GT4 with PDK and 50 hp more (as much as 991 GTS which has the same engine), what happens? I guess GT4 could close the gap...

And now...what happens if people begins thinking that you can go on track as quick as a GT3 (or more) with a car which costs half a GT3?

I guess this is the last thing that Porsche could wish...

 

Sure if Porsche put the GT3 engine into the GT4 and installed PDK-S I duess it could lap the Ring as fast as a GT3 but then it would just be a less pretty GT3 right? Its lile saying if the 997.2 GT3 had the GT2RS engine in it it would have been faster around the Ring than the 4.0RS?

With the power-kit and the PDK Im sure it would have been faster around the track than the 997.2 GT3RS.....but Im not sure than would make it better?

The way I see it Porsche would never position a Cayman so it beats a 991S and making the GT4 only manual solved that issue. I dont think there is any rear risk the Cayman could challenge the GT3/RS at the Ring even with PDK on board...just IMO and full disclosure I have GT4 on order....
