Hi
I just ordered a set.. paid via paypal.. I live in Brisbane, Australia, so hopefully they will be correct and arrive safely. It did make me feel better when they said that had made a "tonne of these lately".. they are NOT expensive either.
Mike
My set arrived last week. I expected Beru wires and ends. Nope, these are Bremi. Anyone have experience with Bremi wires and ends?
Thanks for the tool info, Goughary! I am at the point where having the proper tool is way more important than trying to save a few bucks and McGiver that stuff.
My new upper perches arrived for the kW v3 struts. Keep in mind that you can bolt the kW v3 directly to the oem top hats. My issue is that I'm bolting a camber plate onto the strut designed to work with the oem top hat.
So this was easy, and a little frustrating. The upper perches were milled down perfectly to 61mm for the ID of the helper springs. They are a perfect fit. So then I had a cone milled for me.
I was looking for something like this:
And I received this:
So somewhere along the production line my cone became a cylinder. I guess we missed that in elementary school. So I have to call them and have new cones made. But in the meantime...
I just drew some lines and got out the angle grinder. Quick turn on the bench grinder and good enough to do the job.
Time to do the rear axle flange seals. I covered this the other day. But I'll post a few picks...
Clean around the filler and drain plugs:
I use my Blackhawk 1/2 drive 10mm Allen to break the filler open first. Then the drain. Always make sure you have a good seat.
Fwiw, seems like Porsche no longer makes the filler plugs out of steel. I think that's a huge mistake. So if you have the new type of aluminum plug, careful with your torque specs. 35 ft/lb is plenty.
Then the tool. I posted the entire kit the other day. This is all I use:
I put the 74mm and the 46mm on to start the seal, then switch to 74mm and 18mm to finish. The reason for this will be clear when you first do it. Not entirely necessary but helps to keep things centered.
Make sure when you buy seals, that you pick up at least one extra. If a seal gets hung up the wrong way while tapping it in, you have to wait for a new one to arrive, and that's a drag. I ruined one today. Thankfully I had a spare:
Quick back track...don't forget to transfer all the plastic from yur oem struts to the kW v3. Some of these are impossible to find parts numbers for.
In fact, if anyone has a list of part numbers for each of these, please post them with a pic of the part here, so people can find and order them easily in the future. I called sunset a few months ago and they couldn't help me at all. No clue.
So- to remove these parts. It's easy if you have done it. But impossible if you haven't. Each one has a press pin to hold them in place. Work the press pin out from behind. I use a screw driver and an old filed down seal pic...
Can't tell from those photos. Can you shoot from above? What is the month on your car...its. Good bet that prior to November 1990 you have the early rear towers. But that's not always the case.
Your struts appear in the pics to not come up as far as mine, or any I've seen. Are your current struts the later ones adapted for the early towers?
