I got pulled over again tonight, this time in new Canaan...for my yellow headlights. Thankfully I wasn't speeding..as you know, the Cnc guys are always pressing hard to not speed in new Canaan, since there have been so many issues w the car guys firing up the roads all over town during the day of the event. And the cops there are always pressing hard to keep things under wraps...so I get pulled over....

The guy is sitting in his car. I fiddle around trying to get my glovebox open. The thing is a pita. And I need to pull it out and fix it. I finally get out my reg, insurance, license and the page from the Connecticut regs stating my headlights are legal...and he finally after five (seems like 20) mins, gets to my window... And says...

With a smile, "sorry you won't be needing that. You are fine. I'm sorry for pulling you over. I was pulling you over for your headlights. But I just checked the regs and you are fine. I'm really sorry, didn't mean to disturb your night."

So we laughed and chatted for a bit. Talked about cnc new Canaan, and I told him the story of my last time - a couple months ago - getting pulled over in Fairfield...and having had the same very nice experience with the cop there as well...was all kinda funny. I really like when cops are normal nice people and not ball busters. I can live with that...

Can't wait for the day when I get "ah no, your fine, I just wanted to check out the car...can I drive it?"...lol...I'd toss him the keys...I toss everyone my keys. Driving a fully sorted fully corrected 964 is like nothing else.

And I know when a few of you realize that my new lenses come from a beetle...you'll likely want me to get a ball buster cop next time who throws me in jail...but I like these actually better than my yellow h4 that I had previously - a lot better...

I've been bad this week. Haven't done much of anything to my car or anyone else's. Big Mike picked up his Amazon green armchair, and a long list of things to get done.

Darren's car is sitting. And begging me to begin teardown.

My car is breaking in, but hasn't even had an alignment yet.

So today I was going to re-set my ride height, but decided to take a field trip instead - so I headed up to my friend Scott's shop "the third garage" in new Milford. Fantastic restoration shop and does all shop services and car care and storage for collectors and car guys in general.

So in lieu of a bunch of pics of my old-school shade tree shop...here are a bunch from a real shop...this may come in a few posts...

Darkstar (which really should get a new name) - I'll think I'll call it "nalternator" on account of the fact that it never seems to have a working alternator...and Alabama came to do some work today. Oil changes and what not.

Dave installed a Raid wheel in the bama car while we did the oil change in his. And then in came bama and up it went on stands for a fluid flush, and stainless speed bleeders all around.

While we had it on stands w the wheels off, he had complained about some banging noises in the suspension. Turned out to be the tarret links. Which I had as well....and in the end, it's the upper heim knocking against the bracket. So out came the cutter and I just reshaped, primed and painted the bracket. And done. Now the noise is gone....

So that wasn't too bad. On to the second oil change and we were good to go. Didn't expect to take all day, but we took all day....car runs fantastic and feels great. My favorite so far...

Those Tarett drop links aren't cheap. Kinda crappy you're having to grind on them like that. If they were banging, then they were basically binding when on the suspension's outer bounds of articulation. Good thing you caught that and corrected it before it broke something such as the link itself or possibly pulled the swaybar away from the mounting points. They were probably engineered on a car that has more roll stiffness (less suspension travel) than your car.

Exactly. The metal of the bracket is actually very soft, so I don't think anything would have broken. But the trailing arms are made to swing and so basically here's the deal. If you get the angles just right on the drop link when you install them, no bang. But there isn't room for error. So this way, we have them in, all is well and fine w the world. Spotted owl has the same and has never so much as make a click...so clearly we hit it spot on w her...

The tarret links, btw as far as cost goes, long term will be way cheeper than continually replacing oem drop links. Because you only replace heim bearings on the tarrett and they don't cost much...so as we go forward these I think will be the best option ...lets see how long the heims last...could become and annual replacement...who knows. Could last forever...doubtful. I really like how they feel though.

Continuously replacing? How often do you expect to be replacing drop links?

I've gone through two sets w my car since I got it. So not often....

In other news...I raised the car today to RS plus 10mm so 135mm from the floor to the outer bolt on the front cross member and 245mm to the measuring tab behind the trailing arm bushing. And then set the kW v3 to three clicks from full soft all around compression and five clicks from full soft rebound. MUCH better. So I'm finally getting closer to a good setting for regular street driving...plus since things are settling in nicely, time to get the alignement worked out and call this one done...

I modified my tarret links today. So with the paint dry tomorrow, I'll get those in and get on to the next car finally...
