Haven't found this one yet, any chance there's a link to it?

Regards,
I wouldn't take everything as gospel from script written like that. Don't know that I'd want "ABS breaks" on my car for example!

GTS lights were from Deutsch 9.

Yeah, ABS delete is on my list along with airbags that came standard on the 89 S2. Still, I want to check out each of these records, some give real information. I'm sure you know by now it's a little hard to figure out what people really did to those cars, and it was 25 years ago, a time before the Internet as we know it. It's like archeology.

Sure is fun though! (a line adapted from "Mooseturd Pie" by Utah Phillips).

I'd thought they might be. Thanks for the confirmation. They're also in the lightening plan for the body, along with A/C and the other usual suspects...

Hey Sid -

Got that one. I thought you mentioned Shawn had a detailed DIY version of the build he cloned from yours? I haven't found that one yet.

Hey Tom & Raj:

I sort of have a clue about what Raj did with his car from the Panorama article, but you (Tom) mention somewhere in the 3.0 Turbo Registry thread that you also have a build thread, which I haven't been able to locate. I started digging through all of your posts to find it, but with thousands of them it may take me awhile; clues gratefully accepted.

Same for you Raj. The article was great, so were the pictures, but if you have a build thread out there I'd love to read it.

Regards,

not sure. will find out when I get it together. The machine shop does this on a lot of high performance aluminum block race motors, so he was confident it would be a good idea.

Is this the method BMW used back in the 90's in some of their hi performance designs? I'd heard there might be a problem long term with the cylinders going "oval" over time?

This was the one I was asking about since I'd already found yours (it was from post #31 on this thread).

Scott.

Outstanding. I think that brings the count up to 8 threads now. I did have the first one but not the second (DIY Guide).

I think there's at least one more out there I've heard of but haven't found yet by Tom M'Guinn.

Default Where we are so far

After several days of great posts on the subject of 3.0L turbo build threads I thought I'd send out a list of where I m so far. This only includes known Rennlist sources, there is one other site "Clarke's Garage" that has some information on the subject as well.

Here's what I have:

3.0L Turbo/951 Build Threads from Rennlist (in no particular order) found to date -

"Pauly's go quicker project. (Data Logs!) ", Paulyy:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...data-logs.html

"Patrick's build thread. (IT RUNS!)", 333pg333:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...d-it-runs.html

"My unorthodox 3.0L 16valve build using native 2.5 engine", Blown 944:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...-5-engine.html

"project: turbocharging 944 N/A the proper way ", Voith:
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...l#post11243276

"Hybrid stroker project", Blown 944:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ferrerid=55118

"Refresh951's Hybrid Stroker - A Blown944 Design", Refresh951:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...44-design.html

"Refresh951's Hybrid Ultra Stroker Build", Refresh951:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ker-build.html

"Blown 944 Hybrid Stroker DIY Guide", Refresh951:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...diy-guide.html

"3.0L build documentary", ModdedEverything951S:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...cumentary.html

"3.1l 16v turbo 91 mm stroker dry sump build", Duke
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ump-build.html

"Engine Building Blog", Tom M'Guinn:
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ding-blog.html

"My Porsche 944 S2 16 Valve Turbo Project", TurboTim3
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...project-6.html

"3ltr twincam engine, coming together", JET951
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ml#post6855064

I think some of these might be threads that were started in one place then restarted in another but I can't be sure, perhaps their respective authors can comment?

In addition to actual build threads I've also included the following threads on the subject of building 3.0L Turbo engines for the 951 that (in my opinion) contain valuable advice given by author's of the build threads mentioned above to potential builders.

"951 3.0 l 8V engine building questions", ajrlredondo
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...estions-3.html

I'm also including a very good thread on building a 2.5L 16V turbo that started as a 3.0L build but changed direction mid-course. There are some very good comments in it that I think apply to 3.0L builds:

"Christopher's 16v 2.5L 951 project", Refpotsirk
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...l#post11960098

Thanks to all who've participated in this documentation project so far. I hope to add to it over time (most especially with my own) as new threads are started and discovered.

Regards,

What are your thoughts on O-ringing the block?
