Default 3ltr twincam engine, coming together

Well we have now started the next build. the doner is a 1991 944 S2 engine. 3 ltr twin cam. soon enough to be a 3 ltr twin cam turbo. We ordered the intake from SFR about a month ago and it arrived this week. The engine will be dismanted before the custom pistons will be ordered.

Nice, tell us more about the engine specs!
Sounds like you're sticking with the alusil bores?

yes your right Duke, we will get a set of wossner 4032 with alusil compatible coatings made up. if the bores are good i will get them to set the clearance in the pistons. if the bores have any marks i will have 104.5 made up and oversize the block.

My guess is that there's no trumpets, but it should at least be bellmouth's.

Seems like we'll be running the same pistons Sean

Bellmouthed...all of SFR intakes are done that way.
The Wossners are working well in the Alusil blocks. I just ordered another set for a 16v alusil turbo...

spot on Duke & Chris, the inlet is bellmouthed. i quite like the wossners, and the fact you can customise the wossners to whatever you like. Duke are you using wossners in the engine you got from Markus?

No that engine is destroyed so this is a new build. Some parts from the old engine will be used though.
Block has large head studs, pinned girdle etc.

Wow Sean, this should be a very interesting project. Is this your car or for a customer?

This will be for our car Rob, the 944 S2 doner car is a LHD japan import. its a bit of a shame to strip the car because its in great condition but we cannot get it registered here being LHD.

Seems that there has been much conjecture on various threads about how much it will cost to do a 3L build and more precisely a 16v one. This build may answer the $64k question. Just how affordable can this be done? Especially since the motor will be 'dismanted'. This is a secret Aussie process. We could tell you but we'd have to kill you. lol.
Knowing Sean, this long term project may be finished well before many others.
