Good to know! What is the performance difference between each price tier? I don't want to overspend for minimal gains but I am willing to pay more for something that performs noticably better

thanks!

The Gen 2 Garrett GTX and Garrett G Series have all the latest technology built into the shapes of their compressor wheels. They are getting more flow from smaller packages and better response time.

I think the Holset and the Borg Warner S300 are interchangeable. I don’t have any experience with that CX Racing turbo but I do know the X series gets dual ball bearings, a billet compressor wheel and they are built in American (using Chinese components).

I wanted a super high quality turbo for as little investment possible. I determined that to be the Holset. I’m sure response time will suffer by at least 500 rpm and it won’t have as high of a ceiling as the G25-650 Alan is running. However, it was a quarter of the cost and is super robust.

Great! Good to know! I think I'll go for a hx35, If spool difference is that small I cant see a big difference in response time between 5000 and 7500 rpm of the g25 and hx35 on the track! Also do you have the part number for the tt rs harmonic dampener you put on your car to keep belts from flying off?

thanks!

TTRS Damper: 07K105243H

I found a good used one on Ebay from Germany.

Does the ECS lightweight pulley not hold belts? It's a lot cheaper than the stock TTRS, so just curious

Not sure if it holds belts or not. However, you may want to consider the merits of a damper versus solid pulley.

Anything above 6800 and you’re asking for trouble. The TTRS pulley is a viscous dampner and that is what solves the belt issues.

Hi Jesse, i'm also interested in this as my 968 is looking for some more motivation. Hopefully the customs steam cleaning charges etc don't hit you too hard. Where in Australia are you ?

Thought I'd report back here too since I've been back & forth with the guys in charge, this thing hauls. 3rd gear is like nothing else for these early cars, I can only imagine what would happen with a little boost. My personal mistakes include a starting issue, and a thermostat that requires.... uh, modifications I may also have a vacuum leak, but thats an easy fix.

Edit: My oil cooler also sprung a leak, and my coolant hoses might be hooked up wrong. Not sure yet. Lots of work to do inside, and I'm going to be re-sealing my lower pan tomorrow, maybe Friday. I'm also going to be taking Alan's suggestion by grounding my engine and re-doing some of my connections. Then I'll be hunting for the parasitic current draw. While I'm down there my power steering fittings are leaking hard, so new washers and a propper torquing is the first step, then I might even throw some PTFE sealer on the threads too... I also need to 'T' some hoses, but that's about it.

Anyone know if I should buy some form of litterature such as a haynes or bentley manual for the engine specifics such as torque values, diagrams, and how to take things apart and in what order ect? This is my first time doing any engine work on anything bigger than a lawnmower. I have access to local knowledge but want to be as self sufficient as possible. Is the bentley manual worth its price over the haynes for the purposes of the stock 07k engine turbo swap?

thanks

For the swap it isn’t really necessary as you won’t be getting into the actual engine. Everything but the clutch and flywheel can be done by feel. We are developing instructions that will include torque ratings as well.

Default WOW

So, we got Alan’s car back on the dyno last night. I won’t spoil all the surprises but the power number starts with a 4. Went for a ride in the car and I am beyond impressed. All I could do as a passenger was cackle and yell obscenities haha! Video with all the fun will be dropping next Friday.

Great. Having been an a 3.0L 944T pushing crazy power,
then, being so light, to begin, i can imagine the feeling.

For those curious, I have received my engine. From the US to New Zealand it cost me $504nzd (roughly $320usd). That included relevant import fees. I used kiwi shipping to do it.

Now to start getting the 4 million other pieces needed for conversion

I purchased the bentley manual because I rebuilt my engine. If you're not pulling the head and cams, or swapping the bearings it definitely isn't worth buying. For the timing chains and such theres writeups on vwvortex that have all the info you need. However, if you are going to rebuild the engine, feel free to PM me and I can send you whatever info you need.
