Craig
I was expecting a little more at 25psi but I guess displacement and flow are what they are. By that I mean e.g. we made just under 520hp (at the wheels) @ 26 psi on a 2.6ltr 8v i4 Porsche motor. Seemingly a fair bit more torque too.
I suspect that when these guys who see 800whp are running massive boost. Good to know the motors can take it.

The 07K head flows way better than the 8V Porsche Head. I would expect proper cams and a built bottom end with 26psi to make 500 ft lbs from 4500 on and peak at 650-700 hp (wheel).

I bet that 8V setup is scary fast, and a light switch haha.

Hey Mike, what did you guys end up doing for the factory Porsche oil pressure and coolant temp gauges? Does the coolant temp sensor thread into the rear coolant flange?

Yeah, the rear coolant flange has a provision for the factory 944 sensor as well as the 07K sensor. 07K sensor goes to ECU and 944 sensor goes to factory gauges if you want to utilize them.

the PE ECU / harness comes with a plug for the PE pressure sensor (not included, $110) if you want to be able to datalog oil pressure. The sensor goes in a port on the oil block. You can use a tee or a fitting with multiple outlets to also use the 944 sensor for the factory gauges.

So did you not use the factory 07K oil pressure sensor for the PE ECU? I know that threads into the oil block. Looks like it is just a pressure switch, never mind.

Could the port next to the oil filter be used for the 944 sensor(assuming the right fittings are used)?

Im using the early 944 sending unit with an adapter but I have it wired wrong and the way I plumbed it, it's really close to the brake booster and rather uncomfortable to work on, but I think I will implement a 90 degree fitting in the future to make it easier.

Another update, the coolant now flows via means I'm not super proud of I drilled holes in the thermostat and then vacuum filled it so I'm not sure which one helped more. Coolant now behaves, but now my BRAND NEW alternator is toast, and I'm thinking it was from using the wrong starter and having it hooked up wrong, so for now it runs fine on battery power if I keep it charged, and if I keep it under load and drive it, it will drive for as long as I keep it moving, so it could also be a belt issue because that belt is actually pretty loose.
but.... the 5 cylinder engine is such a compliment to the 944 chassis. Now, my welding isn't perfect, so I probably have some exhaust leaks, but the sound... is absolutely incredible. I had so much fun driving this car, all the work put into this conversion was instantly worth it.

Little issues are really quick, one of those extension grabbers make getting the bolts on the intake manifold in and out very quickly, I think I can have mine off in under 2 minutes. The alternator comes off in about 10 minutes after 2 pulleys and the right combination of tools. Same thing for the oil filter, oil cooler lines, everything. This alternator change will take probably half an hour at best, and then we'll see what fails next

That's more like it.
This particular 8v flowed a ton (279@600@28") with massive ports, and high lift cam, but can't compete with a well designed 16v or 20v head and cams.
Still, I am looking forward to when someone in this group puts together a proper race type i5 motor.

For higher power builds, LPS Fab is making some cool stuff for the 07k now. They've got a billet girdle/upper oil pan under development that fixes some of the block flex issues that people have been finding at 600+hp. It will also be setup in a modular fashion for different wet or dry sumps.

Alex, is this for the cast iron block VW 07K, or the CGI block Audi 07K or the new aluminum block?

Cast iron VW 07k. The aluminum block is actually proving to flex less than the iron block.

Good to hear, how did the electric A/C compressor work out?

After I change out the accessory belt for the correct length one, I'll look into finishing my AC project. A big portion of that includes designing a system that will do what I want reliably, and my electronics skills are not 100% so more to follow with that, but the hardware portion is basically done. All thats left is to charge the system and plug it in.

Are we sure about this? Seems odd on face value. Be interested to read some real world experience. Not doubting you. Just an interested bystander.
