I completely redid the too interior for more than 15,000 EUR, as the old leather was cracked so I decided to change and I put the Pascha fabric which btw costs more than if I had put the leather (this fabric is an old childhood love).

Language from RM:The S4 was the ultimate variant of the 928, made from 1986 to 1992, prior to the introduction of the GTS. It is thought that only 79 examples of the 928 S4 were built by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur with GTS bodywork known as “XX8” styling, notably boasting flared wheel arches and enhanced interior trim.

This example features the desirable “XX8” package, finished in Midnight Blue Metallic over a gray and navy-blue leather interior. After factory completion in March 1991, the Porsche was delivered to Japan, and is still accompanied by selected Japanese-language manuals. Later returning to Europe, the Porsche underwent workshop maintenance at Porsche Zentrum Hofheim and PS Klassik, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, between 2015 and 2022, including routine servicing alongside the fitting of a new alternator, timing chain, and Porsche Classic Radio with sat -nav and telephone. The odometer reads 133.753 kilometers at the time of cataloguing. With its desirable styling on top of matching-numbers chassis and engine, this 928 S4 is a tempting proposition.

The Porsche 928, presented in 1977, was to mark a turning point in the history of the Zuffenhausen sports car brand. The company management wanted to counter the falling sales of the 911 with a completely new four-seater GT. With a nod to the US market, the new 928 got a front-mounted 4.5-liter V8 engine. Despite all efforts to make the four-seater the new flagship of the brand, and to question the traditional rear engine in favor of more comfort and more power, the 911 managed to survive.

The futuristic exterior of the 928 belies the 45-year-old design; and the best examples of the series are now in high demand. The S4, built from 1986 to 1992, was the penultimate new variant of the 928 before the GTS. It is assumed that only 79 examples of the S4 with the body kit, which is particularly recognizable by the flared wheel arches and the upscale interior, from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur (order code XX8) were delivered.

This is one such specimen with the equipment XX8. The 928, executed in midnight blue with grey-blue leather, was delivered via the Japanese Porsche importer after its completion in March 1991 and still has its original Japanese logbooks. After its return to Germany, the front-engine GT was serviced between 2015 and 2022 at the Porsche Center in Hofheim and at PS Klassik in Frankfurt am Main. In addition to the routine work carried out, the 928 received a new alternator, a new timing chain and a radio with navigation system and telephone function from Porsche Classic. At the time of going to press, the speedometer showed 133,753 kilometers. The attractive design in connection with the original chassis and engine make this Porsche 928 S4 a particularly attractive temptation.

I thought I would throw this out there for a friend. I have competed against him in some serious concours events over the years and despite the miles the car is in amazing overall condition. Rare color granite green with matching interior and deviated carpeting. If interested contact him directly.

It is a very stunning example he has obsessed over for many years but is time for him to move on. AFAIK all original.

Sorry the pics aren't the best. He had Ray Paterek help him over the years with this car. Equally talented brother to the PCA paint expert John Paterek who started tech tactics.

Really small trivia point: drooman's post above about RM Sotheby's '91 S4 XX8 car got me curious. There is a legend that there are 50 of these '91 Japanese market XX8 cars that are all automatics and are all midnight blue metallic with gray-blue carpet. It's correct that there are 50 of these C08 '91 XX8 cars and all are automatics, but 29 are midnight blue metallic, 10 are amethyst pearl, and 11 are black pearl (schwartz metallic). All 50 have a '999' carpet color and a '99' equipment code.

No, it's a US market '91 GT. Way rarer.

I have one of the 10 Amethyst Metallic cars. Mine also has the burlwood shifter, console trim and door panel inserts..

There are 79 XX8 optioned 1991 928's, (the first 12 GTS's are 1992 XX8 bodies) for a total of 91 XX8 cars. The XX8 quarter panels are a slightly different shape with slightly different fuel filler doors.

*1 GT went to the USA, (also the first XX8).
16 GT's stayed in Germany.
17 Total 5-speed GT's with XX8

50 - S4's went to Japan.
*9 - S4's went to Germany.
*2 - S4's went to South Africa (RHD).
*1 - S4 went to Belgium.

Love this sort of information here, as I am thinking of bidding on the RM car.

928 GT R

These cars were all visitors to the "Exclusive" options instillation and finishing facility. Paint was perfected and the exclusive options installed. I'm fortunate to have investigated the purchase of four besides the one GT I have and they do have a special build quality. Everyone that has one seems to love the car and the Japanese cars have really exceptional options.

RM Sotheby's also has this Black/Black 1995 5-speed coming up in Miami on December 10th. It has just under 15k on it and looks to be in exceptional condition.

RM Sotheby's seems to be finding some great cars and bringing huge numbers on them. The last 17,000 mile GTS 5-speed went for over $400k!
