'78 Euro Petrol Blue / Black/brown pascha 5-speed 49K mile survivor now up on BAT. Will be interested to see how this one is received- I'm biased but it's an amazing original example.

I wonder if the nose and door handles are original paint. Very clean.

Everything is original paint except for some small rock chip fills on the front lower fenders and a 4 inch square behind the fuel filler door where there was a scuff into the primer. The paint measurements (I have 124 pics to share this week) are fascinating, there's this nice gradient from ~6 mils on the upper surfaces to ~3 mils on the lower fenders and doors. The clear coat is in amazing condition, the previous owner lived in Washington and then Arizona so it has to have been garaged all of that time from 1985-2020.

Ah, you are the owner? Already at $30k. I have a similar car and you are obviously the expert. I won't derail this thread but I may PM you 50x with questions about my car.

that's an amazing car Rob. I heard about it, and have been waiting for it to pop up. Good luck.

Also, Rob, that car is interesting - it has the early 78 air vents in the center consol and on the doors. Also, it has the weather strip running the whole way down each side of the engine bay to keep out water, so no jump post cover was provided by the factory. I thought these things were 78 MY specs only. Did not know that 79 had them. Same with the steel gas cap. What do you know about this?

Ed, the car is a '78 Euro #428- it was put into service on or around October 1, 1977. So it's an early '78 build and has all the early '78 bits, including the six-lobe door lock *****, the weatherstrips, the narrow louver vents without the center vent ****, etc.

Wonderful car Rob! We're all hoping you raise the bar significantly on '78-9 values. Maybe the Risky Business effect will also help float this a bit higher.

Default An update to an earlier post...

In any case, an asking price of $98K+ shows that the seller doesn't know the market, IMHO.
The seller relisted the 1980 928 in an "S4 wrapper" here: 1980 Porsche 928

When I asked the seller about the body work--i.e., why his 1980 928 has the exterior of a 1987+ 928--the seller replied as follows:
"The second owner had the Porsche dealer convert the car to an S4 look which included factory Porsche side mirrors front bumper rear spoiler and Porsche Wheels..... All of the parts used in the conversion purchased from the Porsche store using OEM Porsche parts at a cost of $16,000 in the late 80s....."

Now that's impressive! I guess it was cheaper than buying a new S4 at the time.

Doh I saw 79 - I must be losing my mind!

Anyway, I should never look at these early cars, because that's when I miss Blumaxx.

I think I'm going to regret selling this one, but the perennial issue in SoCal is I have a 2 car garage and 1 wife. And there's always a project on my side of the garage, so I have no indoor long-term storage.

Next time give me a call. You can store it at my place. I'll give you 100% visitation rights.

Is the offer to store the wife or the car?
