I like the Oak Green 78 even with the incorrectly patterned Pascha. I do have to wonder what the euro front plate is hiding however.

Hiding a stint in DE maybe? Speedo is KPH, which very odd. Been swapped for sure.

Hi lads!

Can I piggyback this thread to ask what the realistic price for a manual early 928/928S would be, for a car that's a 3/5 or so (ie, with solid mechanicals, but needing cosmetic attention?)

My dad and I are looking to buy one to compliment the 911s, and ideally would be spending around $5,000, more or less - not that spending more for a better car isn't a bad idea.

Thanks so much for your time!

the days of finding earlier 5speed cars in the 3/5 range, with some cosmetic issues but otherwise driving and stopping reasonably well are long gone. Triple your budget for a car in that category. A $5k car is a little better than a roller. It’ll have more issues than you prefer, and likely cause you to learn to not like the 928. That’s how it gets a bad reputation. Buyers buy bad cars, can’t get them right and it costs a fortune to pay someone else to fix it, so they abandon the project and blame the car. Early cars are actually quite easy to work on engine wise.

Thoughts on pricing. I'm reluctantly considering selling my 1991 928 GT (manual of course). But I'm not sure where to price it. It's an excellent car with just over 12K miles, routinely maintained and service records from new. Its slate grey on black and all original paint. No modifications, just an exceptionally well preserved original car that's been held by a couple prominent collectors - so it has been welled cared for - not sitting and neglected. No mechanical needs and maintenance is up to date. Prices seem all over the place so any thoughts and insights would be appreciated. I've looked in the standard places but haven't really seen a similar car. I'm reluctant to put it up on BaT given the last minute comments that seemed to sabotage the S4 today. I'm not in a hurry to sell but I do want to price it reasonably.

Clean titled, no excuses, and if as nice a condition as you've described, and no need for catch-up maintenance (remember low mileage cars still needs rubber/fuel lines/belts to be replaced from age), GT with <15k miles will bring in $65k all day long if not more, maybe approaching $70-75. If it was an auto GTS, $65-80. Manual GTS with low mileage has proven to fetch >$100k (BaT).

If you want the best money, BaT will give you the most. If you can stand behind your car/words. People in the know (and money) usually can easily see through the naysayers and will pay for the true gems there. Don't use the other 2 auction sites for 928.
Close enough that you should pay @Mrmerlin (Stan Kolen) to do a true professional PPI with your name behind it. Trust us, his PPI will be as good as anyone you can find.

My thoughts would be in the $75K range with your stated 12K miles. Mine I have posted for $52.5K ^^. I'm sure GB will comment on coolant changes or not that effect the head gaskets.

I wouldn't have any issue having a PPI done. I'm pretty diligent on maintenance, since I love these cars and do drive them with my kids. I also have a 24K mile 944 Turbo S. I put myself through college as a mechanic and do most routine things myself. I also bring my cars in for a checkup annually so the more involved work is not neglected. I made the mistake a long time ago buying a cheap TR6 that ended up being an incredibly expensive venture. Seemed it cost $2500 every time I took it for a drive - which usually ended with me going home in a tow truck. Ruined the experience for me and probably why I steer clear of English cars now. In any event, now I have the means to take care of a classic car and I enjoy working on them and keeping them as close to new condition as possible.

Take it to Frenzy in Sterling later this month. It's on your back yard. Get some of the most experienced eyes on it. You'll get a very accurate valuation, I'd say.

1 hour left to go and a manual s4 about to go for 15K. seems like its mainly because the seller hasnt been around. seems like a super deal even if the maintentance hasn't been done...... if you tack on the usual 10k for maintenance upgrades that is a typical number people throw around here, that still just puts it at 25k. these are usually 30k+ cars, and the cosmetics of this car are good other than the black wheels/half painted intake that seem to be not going over too well with the peanut gallery. am i missing something here? if i was in the market right now i would be seriously considering snapping this one up.
