No we are not. Yes, They are getting better. Specially since the 996 IMO is the new 928 as far as DIY and a bargain porsche with a exotic car repair costs.
I am finding the 996 guys are a lot alike the 928 gents. However the 993 guys are a bit up tight.
But dont hold us all in the same crowd as "911" so many sub-models are out there.
Why cant we just all get along and stop comparing penises?

So true, back in '98 when I got my first 928. All 928 owners were uptight and looked down on anyone that worked on their own car. Now look at today, everything changed and pretty much all 928 owners can fix their car one way or another. The 996 prices are getting really cheap, give it a few years and the owner demographic will change to that of the 928 owners. Give it 10 more years and the shift will move up by another model generation.
Stay the hell off my lawn!!

I've been waiting for the neighbor kids to come onto my lawn just so I can yell at them... no such luck yet.
But back to the OP, it seems to me that some people simply have a personality that requires them to have "the best." Doesn't matter what it is, if it belongs to them, it is simply better than anything else. The 911 guy described here seems to be one of these. Doesn't make 'em all bad.

It seems there's always an example that is looked down upon by owners of a perceived 'better' marque or example. At the recent cars and coffee in Redmond, the owner of a $2.5m Ferrari made himself available and answered all questions great and small, showed great care and concern with his car, motored out gently, and demanded no special consideration of the organizers and participants. He has a collection and generously brings a different one each week or so. I think he puts many of the not so humble participants to shame.

After reading many of the posts on this thread, I have one thing to ask: Where's the love for the 924? 'The 911ers all think the 928,944,951,968 are the same pile of monkey chit...' etc etc. Not even my fellow 928 guys acknowledge it!

in the spring of 1988, the car magazine had only recently showed off the new Ferrari F-40 for the first time.... i had read a couple of articles and like everyone, was very excited about the car... Ferrari had claimed they wouldn't be making more than a few hundred of them..... and at the time, you had to be pre-selected by Ferrari from a pool of previous customers and receive a special invitation to buy one.... they had still only sent only about a couple of dozen cars to the United States at this time.....
i drive into this little convenience store—and this nice young lady pulls right in next to my crappy turbo Regal in her shiny red Ferrari.... (Ellen Rosenfeld—daughter of Huna Rosenfeld and heir to the Rosenfeld Cement Co.)....
despite being in total shock, i managed to speak in a somewhat unfractured voice, "that's an F-40!!"
to which Ellen responds with a big smile, "yes, it is."
anyway, she's one of those nice owners you speak about.
my F-40 sighting.

Now is that enough abuse to make you feel part of the unloved stepchildren of Porsche ?

They're not all d*ck....
There's very few 928's in Memphis. So I do have a few 993 buddies. They're just like us, they love their cars. There's turds everywhere, doesn't mean you have to associate with them.

Q.E.D......
say what you will abouit the 944,
still, didn't know it was possible to insert so much foot in mouth in 1 thread. amazing....

Hell, I might even drive it some myself if we restore one (though I would be wearing a hat and dark glasses to disguise myself lest I be spotted by a 911 brother). I can appreciate most classic cars but personally the 944 is beneath a real Porsche enthusiast (because of the front engine).

Drifting
Was out the friday after Thanksgiving, Pulled into PepBoys to get some oil and got 'beeped' by a guy in a '63 A.C.COBRA!! By the time I parked, he had turned around and came up next to me. We stood there "swapping lies' for a while then he asks "what's in it?" I said "I'll show you mine if you show me yours". So Cobra Man pops the hood and there's a really nice 289c.i. iron block pushrod V-8, lots of chrome and flashy parts. I tell him I've got a 4.7Lrt fuel injected ohc V-8. When I pop the hood, all Cobra Man can say is "OH MY GOD!! WHAT A BEAST!!" Made my whole day!!
